🌟 Meet Our Board Member: Darius Beckford

We’re proud to welcome Darius Beckford to the Puzzle Pieces Learning Academy PCS Board!

A Baltimore City native, public servant, and community leader, Darius brings more than 13 years of public service experience, including eight years focused on public safety, crime prevention, and community engagement. His work is rooted in strengthening relationships between communities and the institutions that serve them.

Darius currently serves as Deputy Director of the Baltimore Police Department’s Community Partnership Unit, where he helps lead community engagement strategies and partnerships that build trust between residents and law enforcement. His work includes youth mentorship, community-based initiatives, and partnerships with schools, nonprofits, government agencies, and community organizations.

His commitment to community extends beyond his professional work. In 2026, Darius was elected to the Baltimore City Democratic State Central Committee, representing Maryland’s 40th Legislative District. He also serves as COO of The Flowers Whiting Initiative, supporting re-entry, workforce development, and access to community resources.

Darius holds a Master of Science in Communication Management from Towson University and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Baltimore. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Public Administration and was selected as a 2026–2027 Transform Mid-Atlantic Civic Fellow. He is also a graduate of the New Leaders Council Maryland Fellowship and the Associated Black Charities Board Pipeline Program.

As a Puzzle Pieces board member, Darius brings valuable expertise in strategic planning, communications, community engagement, partnership development, and youth-focused initiatives—all essential to building a school deeply connected to the community it serves. 🧩

🌟 Meet Our Board Member: Dr. Arya “A” Espahbodi

We’re proud to welcome Dr. Arya “A” Espahbodi to the Puzzle Pieces Learning Academy PCS Board!

Dr. Espahbodi is a PreK–12 education leader with 11 years of experience spanning teaching, instructional coaching, special education, school administration, and state-level education policy. His work is grounded in using data to improve student outcomes while empowering educators, school leaders, and families.

Throughout his career, Dr. Espahbodi has served as a math and special education teacher, instructional coach, gifted education lead, and dean of students. His leadership has contributed to stronger data-driven instruction, improved attendance and behavior, meaningful family engagement, and a 50% reduction in suspensions.

He currently serves as a Math School Improvement Network Specialist with the Maryland State Department of Education, where he designs professional learning for administrators, instructional coaches, and math educators across 15 schools and 6 Local Education Agencies.

We’re excited to have his expertise, leadership, and commitment to student success helping shape the future of Puzzle Pieces. 🧩📚

And beyond education, Dr. Espahbodi enjoys snowboarding, kayaking, hiking, cooking, traveling, and writing poetry. 🏂🛶🥾✈️✍🏽

At Puzzle Pieces Learning Academy PCS, we’re building more than a school—we’re building an educational community where every child is seen, supported, challenged, and empowered to grow.

From Pre-K through 5th grade, our vision brings together project-based learning, social-emotional learning, literacy, the arts, occupational therapy, speech, ABA, play, and meaningful community connections to create a whole-child approach to education.

Flashback Friday 💛💛

Before Puzzle Pieces Learning Academy PCS, there was a commitment to finding meaningful ways to support children and families.

During COVID and while working in several school systems our Founder created The Behavior Bubble YouTube channel as a way to reach children with literacy needs from home—using ABA strategies and the knowledge gained through graduate studies to make learning more accessible, engaging, and practical.

It was a small piece of a much bigger story: showing up, serving the community, and continuing to build when circumstances changed.

A special shoutout to my former BCBA supervisor, Christabel Dwinddie and her organization, for supporting this chapter of the journey and helping shape the work along the way.

Years later, the mission continues to evolve—but the commitment remains the same.

The work has changed. The purpose never did.

Learning doesn’t stop when the school day ends. Research has consistently shown that high-quality before and after-school programs improve academic achievement, attendance, social-emotional development, and provide safe, enriching environments for children. Nationally, millions of families rely on these programs to support working parents while helping students thrive.

At Puzzle Pieces Learning Academy PCS, we’re extending learning beyond the classroom through reading and math tutoring with our community partners, STEM Club enrichment, work-study opportunities, parent and stakeholder community meetings, and comprehensive wraparound supports. Through our Curiosity Corner Health Suite, students and families also have access to school-based health and therapy services—because every child deserves the support they need to succeed.
