UPDATE: WHERE TO FIND *A GAY LITTLE HISTORY OF MARYLAND* AND UPCOMING TOUR DATES

We have some new bookstores that are selling the book and some new tour dates cemented! Still looking for more spots, especially in Western Maryland and the Eastern Shore.

Have any suggestions for other stores that should sell the book, or that I should reach out to? Tag them in the comments or let me know, I'm happy to reach out.

It also feels kinda weird to have a buncha versions of the same headshot on one post. It's a good thing I'm so damn cute or we'd have a real problem.

“Yes.”

I got the chance to have a wonderful conversation with Dr. Kalima Young as a part of WYPR’s “Maryland Unfolded” series. It’s got a lot of good stuff in there, but I really like that Dr. Young asked me about some of the bigger picture questions about how we approach history and tell it. Give it a listen!

Yesterday we formally released “a gay little history of maryland, vol. one,” the FIRST book focusing on our state’s q***r past ever published. It was truly amazing, a great conversation for a beautiful, diverse and intergenerational crowd. On a personal level it was a validation of years of research, writing, and educating about Maryland’s LGBTQ+ past. Thanks to everyone who came out, to Rahne Alexander, and of course to Red Emma's for being willing to work with me on this project and publish the book together (and BCP Digital Printing, who printed it).

Expect more from me coming very shortly. We’re working on getting the book into bookstores and I’m setting up dates for A GAY LITTLE HISTORY TOUR all around the state. If you know of any good spots to either sell the book or do a talk, please reach out or comment.

So that tour will be in August. In September, I’ll be dropping zine number 8 at The Club Car Baltimore on the history of so**my laws and the fight to repeal them. It’s called “350 Years of So**my in Maryland: A Celebration.”

Standing room only crowd. 352 zines sold. Over $1300 raised for . Truly incredible. Wonderful invocations from , readings by , and an exciting intro to the Pansy Craze inspired production being imagined by !

But most special was that many of the early activists I talk about in the zine were there, and were able to see how excited people are to learn about our community’s history.

I can’t really put into words how wild it all is. I am so proud of this work and so awed and inspired by the incredible community that’s been coming together around it.

THURSDAY 1/29, 8PM :

Did you know that the first national organization for Black LGBTQ+ people was started in suburban Maryland in 1978? Learn all about it in Zine 6, THE ACTIVISTS!

The National Coalition of Black Le****ns and G**s was a trailblazing organization that challenged racism in gay communities, homophobia in Black communities, and showed that Black q***r and trans folk don’t need to “choose” between identities.

Started by Black LGBTQ+ activists from Baltimore and DC, the Coalition brought together hundreds of POC q***r activists at their Third World Gay/Lesbian Conference and inspired many of them to create their own organizations. They worked with leading cultural figures. They were ahead of the curve in supporting and recognizing bi and trans folks. And they practiced a new and radical form of q***r politics while doing it.

Very little has ever been written about the NCBLG. I guess it’s time for that to change.

Unbelievable. A standing-room-only crowd to hear about q***r history. Hundreds of zines sold. Over $1500 raised for !!! People psyched to know more about the q***r past and to hear about conserving their q***r stories from ***rstories . Oohing and aahing at ‘s incredible artwork. Getting cards read by . If you had told me this was possible a year ago I wouldn’t have believed it. Baltimore, you continue to surprise me in all the best ways.

Last night was truly amazing: A packed house. Over 300 zines sold. OVER $1450 RAISED FOR !!! An incredible drag show afterwards. People excited to find out about and celebrate Baltimore’s legacy of brilliant Black q***r and trans artists and performers. Immaculate vibes all around. Thank you to , , and the incredible performers for helping make this a reality.

Every time I get stunned that people are as into this project and Maryland’s LGBTQ+ history as I am. One of my goals with these zines and events was to see if q***r and trans history could be something fun and cool that people would come out to a bar to see. It’s incredibly humbling to see it happen.

Next zine launch is going to be in December. Subject TBA. Stay tuned!
