Speaking Engagment

Dr. Brown currently serves on the Middle East and North Africa advisory committee for Human Rights Watch and previously served as an advisor for the committee drafting the Palestinian constitution, USAID, the United Nations Development Program, among several NGOs. He is the director of both Middle East Studies and the Middle East Studies Program at GW University. Gaining his Ph.D in Politics and Near Eastern Studies from Princeton. Dr. Brown’s scholarship is extensive and is greatly respected in the international affairs community.

Dr. Nathan Brown from George Washington University will be speaking on Hamas and Palestinian Statehood. It is an incredible opportunity to listen, learn and engage with a scholar in the feild and around the world.

This Sunday's event will take place in the Silber Art Gallery which is currently showcasing Israeli artist Naomi Safran- Hon and her depiction of "houses that have ceased to be homes." She explores the removal of Arab-Israeli's from neighborhoods in Haifa, Israeli through the remanence of the homes they once lived in. The mixed media work does not explicitly display the imagery but instead, like Perspectives for Progress, asks for engagement in conversation on the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.

Speaking Engagment and talk back

Rabbi Yehuda HaKohen is an alternative peace activist and teacher at several Jerusalem institutions. Born and raised in New York City, he moved to Israel in 2001 to enlist in the IDF at the height of the Second Intifada. As a leader in the Alternative Action movement, he organized grassroots dialogue sessions for Palestinian and Israeli activist seeking to transcend competing one-sided narratives in favor a more scientific analysis of the factors forcing both peoples into conflict.

We believe the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is complex, many see it to be binary but within these two sides there is a large spectrum of opinions. We are hoping to expose these differences along the entire spectrum to challenge students to think critically. By way, we are engaging students in participating in active dialogue that will aid in their ability to join in conversations beyond the boundaries of a singular conflict. This need arose from previous failures attempting to provide this platform for discourse. Encouraging students to face different perspectives other than their own will challenge them to apply this to a greater campus climate that involves race, identity, sexuality, gender, religion and socioeconomic status.

Reception and talk with Dr. Gershon Baskin & Professor Mohammed Dajani

Dr. Gershon Baskin is the co-director and founder of the Israel/Palestine Center for Research and Information (IPCRI), a joint Palestinian and Israeli "think" and "do" tank located in Jerusalem. He has been the Co-Chairman of IPCRI's Board of Directors since 2012.

Dr. Baskin is also a member of the steering committee of the Palestinian-Israeli Peace NGO Forum, a member of the Board of the Alliance for Middle East Peace and member of the editorial Board of the Palestinian Israeli Journal . Since January 2012, Dr. Baskin has been working to develop renewable energy projects around the Middle East.

Professor Mohammad Dajani Daoudi, is a peace activist and a scholar from Jerusalem. He taught political science at Al-Quds University where he gained international attention for his teaching of tolerance through Holocaust awareness, most notably by leading a group of students from Al Quds University to Auschwitz. Professor Dajani is the founding director of the Jerusalem Studies and Research Institute as well as the chair of the board of directors for House of Water and Environment in Ramallah.

Professor Dajani also founded the Wasatia (Arabic for "moderation") Reconciliation Center that promotes nonviolence and tolerance in the territories. He is currently a fellow at the Washington Institute of Near East Studies in Washington, D.C.
