Founded by April Volke, a return Peace Corps volunteer, she saw the opportunity to support local artisans in Ecuador by expanding their business into
the global market. The idea of "Minga" stems from the idea that we all must work together to finish a project or in our case, to make a change. By buying from Modern Minga, you are supporting an eco-friendly and ethical design. One way we plan to give back and help develop local business in Ecuador is through the Modern Minga Scholarship Award. We will be donating 10% of our profits each year to a local business student who will work to develop and strengthen jewelry business practices in rural Ecuador. By wearing jewelry made of Tagua, you are creating the demand to support the rainforests of Ecuador. Tagua, known in Ecuador as "Natural Ivory", grows on trees in the rainforests, rainforests which create 20% of the world's oxygen! Therefore it is imperative that we support the stability and growth of these regions. By wearing Modern Minga, you are supporting an Eco-friendly design. We will also be holding "Minga Mingles", if anyone is interested in holding a jewelry party, send us a message or e-mail and we would love to get a party set up with you! (Perks await !)
