Big congratulations to Michael Southard, an outstanding senior, on earning the prestigious Banneker/Key Scholarship at the University of Maryland, College Park! Awarded to around 50 incoming freshmen, this highly competitive scholarship covers full tuition, room, board, and fees and includes admission to the Honors College, where Michael plans to study electrical engineering.

Receiving this scholarship paves the way for Michael's academic and career goals, as it provides him with a free, yet prestigious education. It also validates the time and hard work he invested in not only his life, but also his school community.

Michael is grateful for the support of his parents, the foundation for his motivation. Not only have they supported him, but they have also provided him with a Catholic education. Michael is also grateful for the support of his teachers, especially Mrs. Wysocki, who helped spark a passion for engineering. Michael encourages younger peers to work hard, stay involved, and embrace opportunities to grow as leaders.

We’re proud to recognize a standout senior who has been awarded the prestigious Johnson Scholarship at Washington and Lee University, Dillon-Seth Smith. This highly competitive, merit-based award includes full tuition, room and board, and a summer stipend of up to $10,000 annually. The selection process goes beyond the application, requiring interviews and a unique “shadow weekend” with the scholarship committee.

For Dillon-Seth, the scholarship represents the freedom to fully explore college without the burden of financial stress. With opportunities like study abroad, spring term research, and meaningful connections with fellow scholars, he’s excited to take full advantage of all that lies ahead. Dillon-Seth plans to major in engineering while also exploring law through undergraduate coursework, an uncommon opportunity that will help guide his future goal of becoming a contract lawyer.

Dillon-Seth credits his dad as a major influence, instilling confidence, leadership, and a willingness to step outside his comfort zone. His advice to younger students: don’t be afraid to try new things, even if others aren’t. Lean into your unique strengths, communicate effectively, and turn your ideas into action—because that’s what truly sets you apart.

We’re proud to celebrate one of our seniors, Jacob, who has earned a highly competitive, merit-based scholarship funded by the U.S. Department of War called the SMART Scholarship to use at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County where he is studying mechanical engineering.

This prestigious award covers full tuition, provides an annual stipend, includes summer internships, and guarantees civilian employment with the DoW after graduation.

Through a rigorous application process including essays, high academics, and extracurricular achievements, Jake distinguished himself as a top candidate. For him, this opportunity means more than financial support; it provides the freedom to fully focus on his education, avoid student debt, and step confidently into a future career he has long envisioned.

Jake credits his success to the unwavering support of his family, especially his parents and older sister, as well as the influence of Mrs. Wysocki, who sparked his passion for 3D printing, an interest that helped set him apart.

His advice to younger students: enjoy high school, but take it seriously. The effort you put in, how you treat others, and how you represent yourself and Curley in and out of school, truly matter.
