♟️ Our Chess Team had a great time competing against Clay Hill in a chess tournament hosted by Mr. Johnson this week! Students showed amazing strategy, focus, and sportsmanship while enjoying the chance to meet fellow chess players. Great job, HH chess team and Mr. Johnson for making it happen!

On Saturday, April 25th, 12 of our STEM Club students competed at the Maryland Science Olympiad Baltimore Division A Tournament at Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School (Mervo). Science Olympiad is a national STEM competition where students compete in a variety of partnered events ranging from biology to chemistry to engineering. Division A serves students in grades 3-6.
After preparing with JHU undergraduate mentors from the Charm City STEM League during afterschool sessions, our students competed in 11 events and medaled in 5 different events, bringing home a total of 10 medals!
- Bridge Building (students construct and test straw bridges) - 4th Place
- Crime Busters (students use forensic evidence and chemistry to solve a crime) - 4th Place
- Monster Match (students create groups based on shared characteristics) - 4th Place
- No Bones About It (students take an exam about animal and human bones) - 3rd Place
- Sink or Float (students will hypothesize whether an object will sink or float based on knowledge of density) - 4th Place
