Hospital Leaders Can Use HHS Updated Cybersecurity Toolkit to Strengthen Resilience
Federal health officials are offering healthcare leaders a new way to assess cybersecurity risk and tie those risks more directly to patient safety and operational resilience. HHS recently added a cybersecurity module to its Risk Identification and Site Criticality (RISC) 2.0 Toolkit, a free web-based platform used by organizations to evaluate threats and vulnerabilities across their facilities.

2026 Legislative Update
The Maryland General Assembly (Jan 14–Apr 13) is underway, and MASHRM is tracking key bills:
• SB 269/HB 385 - Would presume medical bills are valid in court (opposed by MHA)
• SB 871 - Proposes changes to punitive damages + added surcharge (opposed)
• SB 792 - Requires hospital policies for immigration enforcement (advancing)
In DC: A vote on remote monitoring coverage for prenatal/postpartum care is set for April 7.
The Legislative Committee will host an online chat in the summer to update members on the on what passed and what did not pass this year.

CMS Requires Qualified Health Plans Verify Compliance with Patient Safety Standards
The CMS patient safety standards require QHP issuers to confirm hospitals have programs or partnerships in place to promote effective patient safety interventions. These interventions focus on things like reducing the risk of patient harm, engaging patients and families in quality improvement, improving care coordination between providers, and monitoring performance on patient safety events.
