Becoming aware of your own executive dysfunction often leads to harmful comparison. It’s so easy to be jealous of others who seem to always be doing things more efficiently — their paths to “success” seem so linear.
Anyone who has booked a session with me can attest to the fact that I HATE linear progression. It’s unrealistic, and quite frankly, isn’t fun. When did we start putting efficiency before enjoyment? We are human. Progress ebbs and flows, and I like it that way.
I implore you to think deeper about the standards you hold yourself to, and how they formed. Are you attempting to walk a linear path to success? If you are, is that path fulfilling? Is it working for you? If not, it might be time to change your mindset. Reroute; take the scenic route. Sure, the curves and hills and roadblocks may take you a little longer to get through, but in the end, it’ll be a lot more fulfilling (and spoiler alert: there isn’t a finish line, anyway).

Cognitive flexibility is a core aspect of executive function. It allows for emotional regulation and adaptation in the face of changing environments — and it is hard.
Admittedly, cognitive flexibility used to be a large issue of mine. Cancelled plans would quite literally ruin the rest of my day. I didn’t realize that there was a name for what I was struggling with or that others experienced it too, so I ignored it and suffered in silence.
Years later, I learned that this was a skill I could actually improve on. By altering my routines, incorporating new things (food, music, crafts, etc.) and adding occasional “desirable difficulties” to my day, I felt my mental bandwidth expand. Now, when the day I had planned is “interrupted,” not only am I better equipped to handle it, but I can reframe the situation in my favor, too.
If this sounds like you, try some of the suggestions listed here! Feel free to let me know how it goes 🤩

Hi! That’s my face!
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Casmira, and I am the owner of Cranial Compass. I‘ve been an executive function coach for the last three years and I have loved every second of it.
If you’d like to see more of me (🤗), please consider booking a free, 30-minute consultation at https://calendly.com/efccasmira. It’s during these consultations where we discuss things like time management, emotional regulation, impulsivity, organization, and more — all topics deeply intertwined with executive function. This helps me to identify areas of focus for our potential future sessions, and also provides you with an opportunity to decide if this is a service that’s best fit for you, with no strings attached.
Hope to see you soon!

Everybody thank the brilliantly talented for saving you from my train-wreck Canva creations. This would not be possible without her!
In the coming weeks, keep your eyes peeled — Cranial Compass continues to expand! You can look forward things like: a simpler scheduling platform, new-and-improved billing practices (exciting, I know), and the unveiling of cranialcompass.com!
Thank you for your patience while Cranial Compass was “under construction.” I can’t wait for you to see what’s next!
