This is what community looks like.
After closing in 2025 due to online threats, Liberation Station, North Carolina’s first Black-owned children’s bookstore, is officially reopening in a new space.
According to WRAL News, the bookstore reopened after a GoFundMe campaign surpassed its goal, raising more than $70,000. The fundraiser gained national attention after TikToker Jen Hamilton shared the story with her millions of followers, turning community support into action.
More than just a bookstore, Liberation Station is a space where Black children can see themselves reflected in stories, imagination, and possibility.

What started as a mom trying to plan her son’s first has turned into a booming business.
When Tayo and Dolu Lanlehin couldn’t find child-sized chairs for their son’s “First Trip Around the Sun” party in Oakland, they decided to buy their own. They spent about $2,000 on 48 kids’ chairs, and that small investment grew into Bay Area Kids Rentals, a luxury party rental company.
The couple has made over $295,000 in 2025 renting out luxury kids’ furniture, ball pits, and mini bumper cars for celebrity and Silicon Valley family parties. Their first big client found them on Instagram, and word spread fast.
Tayo, who works full-time at Blue Shield of California, says the business is helping them build generational wealth while showing their kids what’s possible.

Governor Gavin Newsom has officially approved the creation of a state agency dedicated to implementing California’s Slavery Reparations Program — a powerful step toward justice, equity, and economic restoration for descendants of enslaved African Americans.
At Kern County Black Wall Street, we are proud to announce that we are the only organization authorized under the SDUSMP Chapter to assist individuals in verifying and certifying their lineage for reparations-related benefits when they become available.
We are over the Chapter in Kern County.
Now is the time to take action. 🕊️
Certifying your lineage early ensures that when state and federal resources roll out, your family’s eligibility is already recognized. Don’t wait until opportunities become limited or closed — preparation today secures tomorrow’s benefits.
