Day 5 of our Staff Appreciation Week and we’re finishing strong with lunch at Pyrenees Cafe celebrating 33 years of business. We then had a team tour of one of our current projects under construction, the 12,900-square-foot Fairfax SD Office.

Last week, Ordiz-Melby was honored to attend the ribbon cutting for one of our recent projects, The Nest at California State University, Bakersfield . As the architects on the project, we created a welcoming grocery story-inspired environment that provides students experiencing food insecurity with a dignified and accessible space. The design combines an expanded food pantry with dedicated support offices, all within a highly visible location near student housing and a primary campus entrance. The result is a resource that not only addresses food insecurity but also connects students with support they need to succeed academically and personally. Go Runners! 💙💛

🎉 We are excited to welcome Andrea Calderon to the Ordiz-Melby team as our new Building Information (BIM) Technician II. Andrea earned her degree in Architecture from UC Berkeley and returned home to Frazier Park. In her role, Andrea will continue developing her technical and design skills while gaining hands-on experience across the architectural profession. Working alongside our architects and project teams, she will be mentored, gain an understanding of project delivery, and work toward future licensure. We look forward to supporting her career journey and the value she will bring to our projects, clients, and communities.

🌮Taco ‘bout an amazing team! For day 2 of our Staff Appreciation Week, we celebrated our team with a delicious catered taco lunch. 🎉 We are excited to welcome Diana Martinez to the Ordiz-Melby team as our new Building Information (BIM) Technician II. She started her education in architecture at Bakersfield College and transferred to NewSchool of Architecture & Design where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Architecture. With one year of architectural office experience, she will be involved in project experiences that will help her grow as an emerging professional. Through hands-on learning, she will continue building the technical, design, and project management skills that support her path toward licensure. We are excited to have Diana on our team and look forward to the contributions she will make as she helps create thoughtful solutions for our clients and communities.

We are excited to share the construction update of the modernization of the 75-year-old Mullen Gymnasium at Taft Union High School District! 🏀 Originally built in the early 1950s, this gym has been an important part of the Taft community for generations—and it’s now getting a much-needed facelift. Some of the updates include a new gym floor, air conditioning, and windows, and updated finishes throughout the facility. More updates to come as construction progresses!

We were excited to celebrate a major milestone at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Cerro Coso Community College campus in Tehachapi. For the past two years, OMA has been proud to collaborate with the Cerro Coso project team on the design of this new campus. Now, as construction begins, we’re excited to see the next chapter of this project unfold and watch this important space for higher education in Tehachapi come to life.
