Can hormonal changes in women affect how well they can cope with their ADHD? You bet! We already know that significant hormone changes such as puberty and menopause can have a big impact on an ADHD woman's functioning. This newer study suggests the cyclical changes associated with menstruation can impact ADHD behaviors, making women more or less hyperactive, impulsive and/or inattentive depending on the stage they are in. To help deal with these fluctuations, some doctors are adjusting medications for use during different stages of the menstrual cycle.
