Averill Park Homeschoolers

Averill Park Homeschoolers We are excited to meet and spend time with other homeschooling families in our community!! We would love to hear and share ideas with all of you!

We're a group of Jesus loving, homeschool moms who work together to create educational and social opportunities for our kids as well as great fellowship with each other. We are collectively organizing activites for everyone to enjoy together. Our hopes include group visits to museums, parks, art and music classes, bible studies, soccer lessons, guitar lessons, and spanish lessons. What are your ideas? Lets add them to our calendar! We cannot wait to meet you!

You can come from your Tuesday co-op's. It's ok to come late. That's why we extended our time slots
😊
We are coed and break up into groups as we need to sometimes based on age, skill, and/or gender. We try to have good communication with the kids and parents to do what's best.

Field trip number two of the year was so much fun! John at Tybush Mountain Alpaca Farm hosted us and gave us a great lesson on alpacas and llamas. He provided tons of food for the kids to give to the animals and just smiled as dozens of homeschoolers scattered all over that farm and as all the moms simply had to touch every single hat in the shop. We finished off our morning with a picnic and birthday cookies. We're all really enjoying making new friends and soaking in these great educational opportunities.

We enjoyed an awesome first field trip to explore Schodack Town Park. We did a small lesson on classifying living vs. non-living things and then off they ran to go find examples. Our verse was from Psalm 150:6 "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!" We had a great turnout with lots of new friendships made! Looking forward to more!

We have a lot of great activities starting to take shape!
Most will be on Fridays starting at 10am although a random Monday or Thursday may be thrown in as well as a few early evening activities.
So far we're putting together activities including feeding alpacas, apple picking, exploring and playing in a creek (kill), lessons in patriotism at a veteran's memorial wall, art museum, science museum, and, of course, some scripture learning and prayer. We're doing a mix of activities from social to things we can knock off our IHIP. We're also doing a range of prices with plenty of free activities. Some things require an admission fee although so far we've found most activities to be free for ages 12 and under.
We'll be opening a private Facebook group to post times and locations of events and post the link to that when we're ready.
We're shooting for a meet and greet at the end of August and then we'll officially kick off on Friday September 13th.

07/27/2019

So feel free to keep adding ideas for activities in the thread below or comment on which ones sound good to you. We'll try to get at least a couple on the calendar for September and maybe do a meetup at the mid to end of August.
