Juan and Federico Longoria, inspired by the musical influences of their father Juan Longoria Sr. and uncles, “Los Halcones Del Valle” co-founded the musical groups, “Los Potrillos,”in 1998 and “Conteño” in 2008. Grupo Conteño is representative of the harmonious balance of styles distinctive to regional Texas-Mexican music including the genres of Conjunto, Tejano and Norteño.
Grupo Conteño, was founded in the border town of Brownsville, Texas and has a signature style that is a mix of upbeat, modern rhythms rooted in traditional sounds. These unique musical characteristics have created faithful Conteño fans of different ages and backgrounds all around the world. In 2016, Conteño was selected to participate in the national folk festival circuit including performances and workshops at both the Montana and Richmond Folk Festivals. Juan and Federico were also selected in September 2025 to represent the United States of America at the US pavilion at the 2025 World Expo in Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
