KIPP Austin Connections Maya Angelou

It has been a great first full week back in the Maya Angelou House! This week we started MVPs. 3 students from each class get to be teacher helpers and special recognition for showing the value of integrity. To be an MVP these students did the right thing, even if no one was looking, helped take care of classroom materials, and told the truth, even if it was hard. These students have been great examples of what integrity looks like. Next week we will work as a class to pick next weeks MVPs. Remind your KIPPster to show integrity, and they will get a chance to be a Maya Angelou MVP!

Ha sido muy buena primera semana completa de regreso en la casa de Maya Angelou! Esta semana empezamos a hacer MVPs. 3 estudiantes de cada clase podrán ayudar a las maestras y tener reconocimiento por mostrar el valor de integridad. Para ser un MVP estos estudiantes hacen lo corercto, aun si nadie estaba mirando, cuidan los materiales de la clase y dicen la verdad aun si sea difícil. Estos estudiantes son buenos ejemplos de cómo mostrar integridad. En la próxima semana trabajaremos como equipo para escoger los próximos MVPs. Recuerde a su hijo/a mostrar integridad, para que tenga oportunidad de ser MVP de Maya Angelou!

We had a great time at our book character parade last Thursday! The Kinder Teachers even won our staff award for our "Where the Wild Things" are Costumes. We loved to see all of our students creativity with their costumes and their homemade books. Thanks to all who participated!
¡Tuvimos un gran día con el desfile de personajes de los libros el jueves pasado! Hasta las maestras de Kinder ganamos el premio para el personal de la escuela para los disfraces de "Donde viven los monstruos." Nos encanto ver toda la creatividad de los estudiantes con sus disfraces y los libros hechos en casa. ¡Gracias a todos que participaron!

Today was a very special day! Ms. Nwabueze has a friend who is teaching in Korea. We have set up a class buddy system where we communicate through pictures and videos. Here is the first exchange!

Hoy fue un día muy especial. Ms. Nwabueze tiene un amigo quien ensena en Corea. Hemos hecho un sistema de compañeros de las clases para comunicarnos a través de las fotos y los vídeos. Aquí esta el primer intercambio!

We have been so impressed with how much your students are reading at home! Keep it up- we know they will be super readers and be MORE than ready for first grade with so much support at home!
If your student's book bag is starting to get heavy, feel free to either leave books at home once it is too easy and no longer needed for the book log. If you would rather donate them back to class, please put them in your child's backpack in a ziplock bag and have him/her give them to Ms. Nwabueze or Ms. Barnett. Thank you!

Hemos estado tan impresionadas con lo tanto que están leyendo sus estudiantes en casa! Sigan leyendo así- sabemos que serán super lectores y serán MAS que listos para primer grado con tanto apoyo de la casa!
Si la bolsa de libros de su estudiante ya esta pesada, pueden dejar libros que sean demasiados fáciles o que no se necesitan para el registro de libros en la casa. O si prefieren donarlos para la clase de nuevo, póngalos en una bolsa ziplock en la mochila de su estudiante para que el o ella los de a Ms. Nwabueze o a Ms. Barnett. Gracias!

Wow! What a jam packed day! Today all the kindergarten classes took a field lesson to the Thinkery. It was a great first field lesson. The Thinkery were great hosts, and all of our KIPPsters had a great time. They even asked if we could go tomorrow. Thank you to all the parents who volunteered and joined us today. Your help was very appreciated! Thanks for a great day.
Guau! Que dia mas ocupado. Hoy fuimos con todas las clases de Kinder a un paseo al Thinkery. Fue un primer paseo muy divertido! El Thinkery nos dio la bienvenido y todos los KIPPsters se divirtieron mucho. Aun nos preguntaron si podemos ir manana. Gracias a los padres quienes nos acompanaron. Apreciamos su ayuda! Gracias por un dia muy bueno.

Tomorrow is Back to School Night! The students will get to stay after school and eat pizza, then parents come at 5:00 to learn all about school procedures, homework expectations, and to meet each other! We hope to see you there!

This morning the Longhorns had a great morning meeting learning about the responsibility of having a pet and what that means. After our conversation Flash came out and rolled around in our circle. Our new friends are such a great addition to the class!

Introducing our new class pets! We worked so hard to earn two new gerbils! We are so excited to have these friends in our class and to learn how to take care of them.
The Cavaliers named Ms. Barnett's gerbil "Chicle" and the Longhorns named Ms. Nwabueze's gerbil "Flash."
We will be looking for responsible families to take care of them over Thanksgiving, Winter, Spring, and Summer breaks-- let us know if you are interested.

Presentado a nuestras mascotas de la clase! Hemos trabajado muy duro para ganar los jerbos nuevos. Estamos muy emocionados para tener estos amigos en la clase y para aprender a cuidarlos.
Los Cavaliers le llamaron "Chicle" al jerbo de Ms. Barnett y los Longhorns le llamaron "Flash" al jerbo de Ms. Nwabueze.
