Sowing the seeds of healthy eating~ research shows that learners who grow their own veggies are 5 times more likely to eat them [and we mean eat them…right then…lol]. 🥕
::
Our owls are in the garden with our amazing Mr Corbin, working around the moon cycles, to plant and nurture, so we can create a “garden to lunch plate”- type culture at our schoolhouse. We typically move produce to the kitchen so we can all enjoy but this round went home with our children, to show what happens when we tend to our garden. 🥕

• the power of mixed age learning • 🦋
::
We offer weekly activities to our students where we encourage the oldest friends to connect with our youngest, to teach and empower them. Sometimes it’s a book read, or an activity taught, and other times it’s a nature connect, where the young learners share their wonder with our oldest class, for them to be in awe. 🦋
::
The power of mixed age play + learning is real, and we are thrilled to witness these transformations: younger children rise to meet their elders and older kids become leaders. 🦋

Every Friday, our Wolves create their own Newsletter, and round the week by reflecting on their goals + achievements. 🐺
::
Typically, the last Friday of the month is when we connect with our wider community [by hosting a market day] and today, we’ll add our book fair, after having hosted a successful science fair yesterday. Come join us and connect with our learners to see their beautiful creations. 💫

• outdoor + learning • 🐝
::
Contemporary research reveals that spending time in nature has tremendous benefits for children. They are better able to focus in natural settings, and studies show that physical activity, especially outside, improves academic readiness and both verbal and mathematical ability. As Richard Louv points out, “Time in nature is not leisure time; it’s an essential investment in our children’s health.” 🐝
::
So, here at WG we don’t only move outside for gardening, and nature exploration. We also connect our academics with the outdoors and create enriching ‘whole child’ learning experiences that feel nourishing, and at the same time, challenging. 🐝
::
Math in the Garden. Literacy at snack time. History in the playground. Aber klar doch! 🐝

• nurturing our learners • 🐸
::
We love nurturing our learners by co-creating outdoors, however, we equally focus our practice on math, reading + writing daily, via a variety of games, and resources. 🦋
::
As we move closer to harvesting all that we planted this last semester, we see growth in every student. 🦋
::
Here our Owls practice their state map recognition (and spelling), also word recognition + sounds via word bingo, before we move them to journaling and practice writing. 🦋

• magical days in the garden • 🦋
::
Our students loooove exploring in our garden and these beauties deserve a permanent spot on our feed. What magic it is to be alive, and to flourish + learn in nature. 🦋

• gratitude + happiness • 🦋
::
Creating happy, healthy childhood + schoolhouse memories will absolutely set our learners up for success in life. 🦋
::
Here some ways we love contributing to the long-term happiness of our students:
::
• We create enriching experiences for outdoor play, in our creek, in the garden or on our TreeWeaves 🐝
• We offer Z E R O screen time for youth under 10yo. Inspiring our students to create with their hands [and imagination] is key 🐝
• We share Gratitude daily. Saying ‘thank you’, and talking about what we are grateful for, are daily practices 🐝
• We hold high but reasonable expectations: these can have a big impact on our students willingness to challenge themselves. How we do it? Inspiring them, by asking questions, and by setting goals for our collective community growth 🐝
• We eat together, joining our learners while modeling healthy lifestyle choices. This includes creating healthy meals, smoothies or juices, together 🐝
• We practice movement. This includes breath work, yoga, grounding into nature, and sometimes sound 🐝
• We help other people who are less fortunate than we are. May it be via volunteer work, or creating homeless bags for distribution, our learners are always ready to support anyone less fortunate 🐝
