The withdraw deadline for full-term Fall classes is Wednesday, November 26! Check your eServices for classes that started late or end early.

Talk to your instructors before withdrawing, but taking a W on your transcript could save your GPA for future terms.

Make an appointment with your TRIO Academic Advisor, Liza, if you would like to discuss your situation and options.

LISTEN.

If you TRULY do not have the resources (time, attention, energy) to get yourself to work on a particular task for more than 3 minutes, there are ONLY two ways that situation plays out.

1 - You continue to TRY to get yourself to work on it all afternoon, ignoring the reality that it’s not going to happen and wasting time, likely falling into procrasti-tasks like scrolling throughout the process. You face the consequences of not getting it done.

OR

2 - You acknowledge the reality that although you DID try, you do NOT have the energy or attention available to get the task done. You communicate appropriately, and face the consequences of not getting it done, but at least then you CAN spend that afternoon getting OTHER tasks done that are within the scope of the time & energy you do have.

Which one are you choosing?

In reality, it’s far more likely that after 3 more minutes, you end up feeling capable enough to at least do PART of it. To get started, to take a stab at it, hell, maybe you even do the whole thing.

I have posted over 1000 times on Instagram, and in that slew of posts you’ll find hundreds of techniques to improve your task follow through, get s**t done when you REALLY don’t want to, shift your motivation in the moment, and generally exhibit control over your behavior.

These are the techniques I learned while studying behavior change in my PhD, and the techniques I applied to go from being a tornado girl of chaos to someone who genuinely has her s**t together.

But SOMETIMES, even with ALL the techniques in the world, the task that “has to happen” today isn’t gonna.

People who follow through acknowledge that reality early, and adapt.
