We’re converting this cancellation into mobilization by we’re showing up to City Hall! 🔥

The Governor threatened to strip Grand Prairie of $530K in funding to cancel a private Eid celebration at Epic Waters. A private, family-friendly celebration became a political target.

The event was canceled. The movement wasn’t.
Join us for a press conference at city hall!

8 months. That’s how long Yaakub Ira Vijandre has been detained by ICE—simply for exercising his right to politically protected speech in support of Palestine.

Freedom of speech should never cost someone their actual freedom. ⚖️ In this video, freed political prisoner Leqaa Kordia eloquently breaks down exactly why standing up for Yaakub is a collective responsibility for all of us. We cannot stay silent while people are targeted for calling to an end to a genocide at the hand of our taxpayer dollars.

🔗 How to help: Head to the link in our bio right now to quickly contact your elected officials and demand they call for Yaakub’s freedom.

Following today’s press conference addressing the deadly mosque shooting in San Diego and the shooting incident that took place in Dallas, Executive Director of CAIR-Texas DFW, Mustafaa Carroll, emphasized the importance of vigilance, awareness, and ensuring our communities remain connected and informed in moments of uncertainty. Protecting our communities begins with refusing to normalize hate and remaining attentive to one another’s safety and wellbeing.

May Allah grant mercy to those who lost their lives, bring healing and patience to their loved ones, and protect all communities and houses of worship from hatred and violence. Ameen.

As we mourn the lives lost in the San Diego mosque shooting, we turn first to Allah asking for mercy upon the deceased, healing for their loved ones, and protection for our communities.

From that du’a comes responsibility: to remain vigilant, protect one another, confront hate, and safeguard every house of worship. May Allah grant the victims Jannah and strengthen our communities with faith, unity, and resolve. Ameen. 🤲

The story of Dhul Hijjah is an embodiment of faith in action, a reminder that belief is not only something we hold in our hearts, but something reflected in how we serve and uplift those around us. As you break your fast today, reflect on what actions you have taken to strengthen, protect, and positively impact your community.

*CAIR-Texas welcomes the joint letter from 42 Texas legislators defending constitutional protections against religious hostility.*

This follows Governor Abbott pressuring Grand Prairie to cancel “DFW Epic Eid” by threatening to *withhold $530,000 in state grants* over an early flyer that mistakenly used “Muslim only” language, *even after organizers clarified it referred only to a modest dress code*.
This is bigger than one event. It reflects a broader effort to marginalize Muslim Texans and restrict our ability to gather in public spaces through “enforcement by ultimatum.”

Moving forward: *Community organizations should feel confident continuing to host events on public property.* We encourage groups to take care that event messaging cannot be deliberately misconstrued by those seeking to manufacture controversy. *If you have concerns about a public event, please contact CAIR Texas https://bit.ly/cairtexas*

🚨🚨TEXANS SHOW UP AND SHOW OUT!!🚨🚨

Across the country and around the world, we are watching the stakes escalate in real time. Wars continue without accountability, communities face the threat of mass deportation, and efforts to reshape education are narrowing what future generations are allowed to learn and understand.

We would like you to join us this May Day as communities across Houston mobilize to demand jobs, education, dignity, and an end to war and displacement.

**NOTE: DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, MAY DAY FOR HOUSTON HAS BEEN MOVED FROM FRIDAY MAY 1st TO SUNDAY MAY 3rd!
