Dawson Elementary Early Childhood: Kinder, PreK, and PPCD

Dawson Elementary Early Childhood: Kinder, PreK, and PPCD We want to share with families all the wonderful things we do inside our PK/PPCD classrooms! We invite parents to use this page as a communication tool.

PPCD stands for Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities. Eligibility is based on district evaluation and admittance into special education services via an IEP (Individual Education Program). PPCD services are provided to students age 3-6 who are receiving special education services. Students in PPCD can also be enrolled in PreK if they are eligible. Prekindergarten is a special program fo

r eligible four-year-old students. The PreK program is designed to meet the needs of a child's early years, which are a period of rapid growth. For many families, PreK is the introduction into the public school system. The Austin Independent School District provides a full-day PreK program for all children who turn four on or before September 1st of the current school year. Students must also qualify by being either:

Limited-English proficient (LEP); or
Educationally disadvantaged; or
Child of active military parent; or
Homeless.
