The Austin Whisk(e)y Society

I really like this single malt. The phenolic and smoke are not overpowering. A soft elegant oiliness is quite evident with notes of vanilla and fruit. Top notch American Whiskey. Has anyone else had this? I would love to know what you think.

A friends bottle. He got it when his dear friend Ed passed away. He decided to open it on the 15th Anniversary of Ed’s passing. I’m very happy he shared a wee dram with me.

Auchentoshan 3 Wood the appetiser... First sniff: hazelnut chocolate...leather..lovely start to the night.. On the Tongue: smooth, tinge of tangerine sweetness, finish: dry honey ..
Glendronach Revival 15 yr ... First sniff: chocolate orange warm graham crackers digestive biscuit base On the Tongue: chewy.. rich.. chocolate brownie.. finish: long remainders of the brownie linger..
Balvenie Caribbean cask 14 yr ... First sniff: bananas, bananas..warm..flambe'd
on the Tongue: vanilla with a wee bit of warm mixed spice..
finish: light taco chilli dusting
Laphroaig Triple Wood: First sniff: freshly spread bitumen (macadam) ..Hospital anti-septic bandage..wet oaky wood.. walk on the beach
On the Tongue: hot spice, smoky , oily .. finish: long chewbacca chewy leather delicious..
Laphroaig 16 yr old unfiltered distilled 1998.. This is for my good friend Angus Self over in Edinburgh, Scotland... First sniff: freshly rolled antiseptic bandages or fresh briney sea-spray from a stroll along a pebble beach.. On the Tongue: spritzer of salty briney heat ... smooth warmth in front of a log wood fire.. Finish: long salty caramel warmth...
