In 1975 an Austin couple searched in vain for a school that would accept both of their children - one with special needs. Determined to educate their children together, they founded Open Door Preschools to provide the opportunity for children of different abilities to learn and grow together. Terrific Tuesday Time! 💙

Take a peek at what our little friends have been up to at Open Door Preschools! From making popsicles and playing dress-up to running a mini carwash and making friendship bracelets, every activity is a chance to grow. Hands-on play like this builds essential fine motor skills, sparks creativity, and helps our children develop strong social-emotional connections with their peers.

Our little friends are having a blast learning and growing together!

🌟 Star Spotlight: Elizabeth McQueen Returns as Emcee! 🌟

We are so excited to welcome back the amazing Elizabeth McQueen as emcee for this year’s Play It Forward: Unearth the Future

A former Open Door parent and passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion, Elizabeth brings warmth, wit, and a deep connection to our mission.

By day, she’s the Manager of Podcasts at KUTX 98.9, The Austin Music Experience, and the host of the beloved podcast Pause/Play, as well as a producer for The Breaks, a deep-dive into hip-hop culture.

Before her podcasting days, Elizabeth lit up stages across the country as a professional musician fronting her own band, Elizabeth McQueen and the Firebrands, and touring with the legendary Asleep at the Wheel.

🎨 This post features another fun “Por-TREAT” by Missi Jay . Missi Jay will be all set up at Play It Forward to create her signature portreats for our guests!

This year, they are transforming the Texas Science and Natural History Museum into a one-of-a-kind, after-hours celebration. Imagine sipping crafted cocktails, tasting gourmet bites, and dancing to lively music... all underneath a towering Tyrannosaur skeleton! 🍸🦖

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our community partners at PNC Bank!

In July, the PNC team generously donated birdhouses and books for every single Open Door classroom, alongside an incredible $4,600 in Lakeshore Learning gift cards to support our educators and students.

Our young artists are already busy putting their creative touches on the birdhouses! 🎨🐦
