In rural Cambodia, early marriage is a common practice, and pretty much the apex of achievement for girls especially - dashing any possibility of higher education. The first two pioneers who bravely asked us for university support not only overturned traditional gender expectations, but paved the way for many more to follow in their footsteps.

Girls in Science! Sophanny represents the 69% of PLF undergrads studying STEM subjects - and is absolutely crushing it 💪

"First year, first lab as a Chemistry student at RUPP. You don't have to wonder how amazing it is - just look at how serious we are about our project! Here we are learning about using a triple beam balance, used to measure the mass of experimental equipment or various chemical substances. Understanding this helps experiments run smoothly, as almost every experiment requires some measuring in order to complete a formal report.

I chose Chemistry because of my love for the subject and my passion for scientific research and unique experiments. I also see that this skill set is in high demand for the future development of our country.
In the future I aspire to become an entrepreneur by establishing local factories and workshops to manufacture products that meet the diverse needs of the population.

I feel incredibly happy because I am someone who loves discovering new things. I enjoy experimenting and practicing the same scientific methods that great scientists have used to make their discoveries!"

Sareng was one of the first students to finally be able to graduate from Koh Ker primary school - having had to repeat Grades 1 & 2 several times. The determination of these early pioneers to continue learning informed our own next steps with the creation of Srayang dorm, right next door to the nearest secondary school - some 18 kms away. Sareng was also one of the first pioneers to bring education full circle back to her community!

We'll be honest - we've had better starts to the week! 😱
Yesterday, one of our trucks in rural Preah Vihear suffered a major mechanical failure, causing it to veer off the road and hit a bridge post - losing it's front wheels in the process.

Fortunately the students were not yet on board, and the driver is uninjured.

But our poor truck took a battering, and we urgently need to get it back out on the roads.

The repair bill is big. And time is of the essence. With no truck, village kids are unable to travel the distance to high school, and their learning starts to suffer.

Can you help get us and them up and running again? 👇 https://theplf.networkforgood.com/projects/300621-the-wheels-have-fallen-off

From tiny seeds in 2006, when Ponheary was providing supplies for around 40 students, PLF has flourished alongside the students it serves.

Since those early years, our work has expanded to support whole communities with educational opportunities that aim to break cycles of poverty:

🚸 +8,000 school students
📚 5 government primary schools
🏫 4 PLF learning centers
🎓 +400 higher education scholarships
