In my lifetime, I haven't been able to believe it's been butter or yogurt, and now I can't believe it's almost time for our April Nonprofit AMA!
Join me and Beverly Anderson Hamilton on Thursday at 12pm CT for a free discussion about strategic planning.
I have facilitated literally hundreds of strategic planning projects as a nonprofit consultant and look forward to answering your questions about topics like process, metrics, flexibility, and anything else on your mind.
This will be a great conversation for nonprofit leaders—both staff and board members—and we welcome consultants as well, so please share this opportunity with your networks, too.

OMG y'all. I have had to switch from Outlook Mail to Apple Mail because of some weird Microsoft glitch that I spent tooooooo looooooonnnnnngggg trying to solve.
And now I'm setting up my first out-of-office message in Apple Mail using "rules" instead of a traditional OOO set-up. I did not realize that if I didn't specify that the rule was for new messages only, it would crawl through every email I've ever sent and send my OOO message.
So now I have tons of folks writing and asking about things and making me more things to do as I'm working on checking out. I'm happy for an excuse to reconnect with folks on old projects, but now I'm reconnecting by saying "oops tech glitch" and not some strategically insightful thing.
Sigh.
Apologies to those of you who are getting this seemingly random message from me, and here's to reconnecting!

I'm looking forward to (re)connecting!

I've always been game for some online self-profiling. I was an early adopter with Cosmopolitan quizzes and important BuzzFeed tests like What Star Wars Character Are You? (General-Princess Leia, obv.) But I also love 16Personalities, CliftonStrengths, the DISC, and the Enneagram tests.
I've now found This Brilliant Quiz by Adobe to identify , and I'm a .
According to the assessment, my "gaze is fixed on the horizon, where [I] see possibilities others cannot yet imagine. True vision, [I] know, is unconstrained by present limitations. [I] see beyond the ordinary, past the mess and the mundane, to a more refined reality."
I think this is why I enjoy so much. I love the opportunity to figure out what is next with a group of people dedicated to important missions.
It says "The world depends on the Luminary to dream the future into being."
I am so grateful to be able to do this work and look forward to the future of more exciting nonprofit collaborations.

During the pandemic, one of the long-term virtual experiences I had was teaching Nonprofit Leadership & Management to two groups in southeastern New Mexico through The Center for Professional Education at UT Austin. That has led to some great relationships with organizations there, and I'm just getting back from a fantastic weekend in Carlsbad.
To continue the community collaboration of the class, Joanna Wells started the Carlsbad Community Impact Council, and not only did I get to speak with them about strategic planning on Friday, I also received the first and only mug printed with their logo!
On Saturday, I spent my day with the amazing board and staff of Eddy County CASA working on their strategic plan. Their team is incredible, and I was so caught up in the great work we were doing I only remembered to snap a photo of their new outdoor signage!
In between working, I drove up to Cloudcroft to check out the first snowfall of the season, and afterwards, I went to the Carlsbad "Beach" because I am a big believer in doing more than just work stuff when I go on a work trip. I love seeing the places the people work in and getting to better understand their worlds. And I love the water--frozen and liquid!

I actually really enjoy working virtually with groups, and I'm always looking for ways to level-up the experience and make it more user-friendly and enjoyable.
Totally adding a cursor parking lot into the slides I'm working on right now.
What other tips do y'all have?
