Earth Day fact: In the U.S., domesticated honeybees pollinate about 35% of the food crops Americans consume. That makes pollinators a vital part of not just ecosystems, but also agriculture, food security, and daily life.

In recognition of Earth Day, Energy Switch explores a "cool" topic in this new episode of Season 8, "Arctic Climate."
The Arctic is warming faster than the rest of the planet. Melting sea ice has opened northern shipping lanes but exposes more water to the warming sun. Melting land ice raises sea levels. Changing weather can bring cold air south to the rest of us. We’ll look at these with research scientists Nancy Fresco from University of Alaska Fairbanks and Twila Moon from Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences at UC Boulder.

Earth Day fact: Geothermal energy taps heat that still remains inside Earth from its formation 4.5 billion years ago, along with heat from the natural decay of radioactive elements.
