Dear KIPP Texas Families,
I hope all of you are safe and healthy amidst the increased and concerning spread of the coronavirus. While this is not the summer we imagined, we hope that our KIPPsters and your families are safe and finding moments of rest and joy. As our team makes preparations for the new school year, we will continue to send you updates.

We share your concerns about the current state of the virus in our state and continue to hold the safety of our KIPPsters and our staff as our number one guiding principle. Last week, we made the decision to suspend all sports strength and conditioning practice for our athletes because of the increased spread of the virus. We will continue to monitor the spread of the virus closely over the next few weeks and will keep you updated on any changes in our planning for the start of the school year.

In the meantime, we know parent choice is important, and we will continue our plans on a hybrid solution, giving you, as parents, a choice every six weeks to decide how your child learns- you may choose either a combination of in-person and online learning (hybrid model) or 100% online learning. Additionally, we have added an option that would allow children of first responders to select the opportunity for their child to learn in a school building every week. The hybrid learning model will allow us to accommodate our KIPPsters who need more time in school buildings, while ensuring we have social distancing and other safety measures in place. Here is how a hybrid schedule could work for your KIPPsters within a four-week month:

Group One: A group of Little KIPPsters who opt into hybrid learning receives in-person instruction in the school building in weeks one and three of a month. These Little KIPPsters learn virtually in weeks two and four of the month.

Group Two: A different group of Little KIPPSters who opt into hybrid learning receives in-person instruction in the school building in weeks two and four of a month. These Little KIPPsters learn virtually in weeks one and three of the month.

Group Three: KIPPsters who are identified as needing additional time in the classroom, and those KIPPsters whose families are essential workers (e.g. healthcare worker, first responder, public works employee, etc), will be offered the opportunity for additional weeks in school buildings as space is available. We are finalizing these details and will provide more information in mid-July.

Group Four: This group would consist of the children who parents choose to have their classes 100% virtual.

Starting the week of July 13, we will have additional information on scheduling, and the week of July 20, we will have a video that takes you step-by-step through the health and safety measure we will all take as part of a day in the life of a KIPPster this fall. Schools will also be hosting family town halls in July to provide more detailed information on parents’ choices around restart options.

Espero que todos estén seguros y saludables durante la preocupante y aumentada propagación del coronavirus. Mientras este no es el verano que nos imaginamos, esperamos que nuestros KIPPsters y sus familias estén seguros y encontrando momentos de descanso y alegría. Mientras nuestro equipo hace preparaciones para el nuevo año escolar, les continuaremos proveyendo actualizaciones.

Compartimos sus preocupaciones acerca del estado del virus en nuestro estado y continuamos poniendo la seguridad de nuestros KIPPsters y personal como nuestro primer principio que guía nuestras decisiones. La semana pasada, tomamos la decisión de suspender las actividades de deportes para nuestros atletas por la aumentada propagación del virus. Continuaremos monitoreando la propagación del virus durante las siguientes semanas y les mantendremos actualizados sobre cualquier cambio en nuestros planes para el comienzo del año escolar.

El modelo de aprendizaje híbrido nos dará la oportunidad de acomodar nuestros KIPPster que necesitan más tiempo en nuestros edificios, mientras asegurando que podamos mantener la distancia social y otros métodos de seguridad.
