Happy Mother’s Day from The Village. 🎉
Today, we celebrate the love, strength, care, resilience, and magic of mothers and caregivers everywhere—especially the Black mamas who continue to hold families, communities, and each other together every single day.
At Black Mamas Village, we know motherhood is powerful, beautiful, exhausting, joyful, complicated, and sacred all at once. And we also know that none of us are meant to do it alone.
Thank you to every mama, grandmother, auntie, bonus mama, expecting mama, grieving mama, and caregiving soul who helps make our community what it is. Your presence matters. Your care matters. You matter.
We hope today brings you moments of rest, love, laughter, connection, and reminders that you are deeply appreciated.
Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Black Mamas Village. 💛🤎

We love it when our members share adorable moments like these 💛🤎
“Gave the garden at The Village Place a little TLC today. Was about to dip out when Leonie Hunter invited me and the girls to help care for the garden, and I’m so glad we said yes!
It was a great lesson for the girls about caring for living organisms and the importance of water. We got to taste fresh mint, smell basil and familiarize ourselves with all the different veggies and plants in the garden. 🪴💦”

🌱 The Village Free Store is Coming — April 25 🌱
We’re getting ready for our next Free Store, and this is one of the most powerful ways we show up for each other as a community.
Clothing, baby items, household goods, and furniture all circulating back into the hands of families who need them—nothing wasted, everything valued. This is mutual aid in action. 💛
This quarter, we’re doing things a little differently and hosting the Free Store as a pop-up at St. Francis School (300 Huntland Dr).
🧡 Want to be part of it?
We’re welcoming volunteers to help with:
donation intake + sorting (April 12–22)
prep + packing
setup on April 24
support during the Free Store on April 25
As always, volunteers will have the opportunity to shop as well—but more than that, you’ll be part of making this whole thing happen for the Village.
👉🏾 Sign up to volunteer: https://signup.com/go/JTpxqGS
🛍️ Have items to donate?
We are currently accepting:
clothing (all sizes)
baby items
household goods
shoes
👉🏾 Donation drop-off details + sign-up: https://signup.com/go/wyFBuRz
Please note:
Furniture and appliances are very welcome, but due to this quarter’s pop-up setup, they can only be accepted at the event location:
📍 St. Francis School
300 Huntland Dr
🗓️ Friday, April 24 | 4–8 PM
🗓️ Saturday, April 25 | 6–8 AM
Every item donated, every hour volunteered, helps us move resources through the Village in a way that supports families and keeps usable goods out of landfills.
This is community care. This is climate care. This is us. 🌍🌱

We’re excited to share a beautiful opportunity to support Black creativity and pour back into community 💫
Black Mamas Village has been invited to participate in this season of Austin Fashion Week, and we’re especially highlighting the Black Designer Showcase happening:
🖤 Friday, May 9 at 8:30 PM
📍 The Domain
This showcase is part of a full week of fashion events (Wednesday–Saturday), but Friday night centers Black designers—and we’re proud to be connected to that moment.
✨ Even more meaningful:
15% of all ticket purchases using code “blackmamas” will be donated back to Black Mamas Village.
Your attendance = direct support for our work with Black mamas and families here in Austin.
🎟 Tickets + details:

From general admission to VIP experiences, there are options for everyone.
We’re grateful for the opportunity to be represented in this space—and we hope to see some of our community there supporting, celebrating, and showing love 🖤

This spring break felt like time travel.
Like neighborhood blocks where kids moved freely between houses.
Like apartment courtyards full of laughter.
Like family cookouts where somebody always had a plate ready for you.
80 people.
21 families.
A whole village.
We kayaked, learned new flavors at the Too Sauccy cooking demo, spent hours and hours in the pool, played No Mercy UNO like our reputations depended on it, fished, hiked, stretched into morning yoga, and gathered around shared meals that tasted so much better together.
But the best part? The conversations.
Parenting wisdom passed between families. Honest talk about health and choices. Late-night shenanigans. Soulful music drifting through the campsite. Aunties checking in. Cousins running wild. Laughter everywhere.
This is what belonging looks like.
This is what community feels like.
This is what we’re building together.
Grateful for every family who showed up and made the village real. 💛
We can’t wait to do it again.

Austin is home to more than 1,600 nonprofits. Today, during Amplify Austin, people across our city are deciding where to give.
Here’s why I hope you’ll consider Black Mamas Village. 🤎
Nearly seven years ago, this started as a simple Facebook group created by one Black mother looking for connection. Today, it has grown into a village supporting 5,000+ Black mothers and families across our region.
Together we provide:
• Emergency financial assistance
• A weekly food pantry and free store
• Resource navigation and housing support
• Mental health and maternal wellness referrals
• Community gatherings that fight isolation
• A physical home for connection at The Village Place
In a city where Black families are being pushed farther from the communities they built, we are working every day to make sure Black mothers and their families can still belong here.
If you believe in the power of community care, today is a great day to invest in it.
Give here: https://www.amplifyatx.org/organizations/black-mamas-village
And if you can’t give today, you can still help by sharing this post so more people learn about the village. 💛

We had to do it! Since we didn’t post yesterday- on this last day of Kwanzaa we share Siiix and Seveeen! 😂
Day 6 | Kuumba (Creativity)
Kuumba reminds us to leave our communities more beautiful and more whole than we found them.
At Black Mamas Village, creativity shows up in how we build care, through art, gathering, healing practices, shared problem-solving, and imagining new ways to support Black mothers and families.
Today’s reflections:
• How are you using your creativity in service of community?
• What are you building, shaping, or reimagining right now?
• Where can beauty be an act of resistance and care?
Creativity is not extra—it’s essential. 🖤
Day 7 | Imani (Faith)
Imani calls us to believe, in ourselves, in one another, and in the future we are building together.
Faith looks like trusting community care, believing in collective power, and continuing to show up even when the path isn’t easy. It’s faith in Black mothers, in shared wisdom, and in our ability to create something better, together.
Today’s reflections:
• What are you placing your faith in this season?
• How does trust show up in your relationships and community?
• What does it mean to believe in us?
We move forward rooted in Imani. 🖤✨
