The Tribe award recognizes a National Debate Tournament alumnus who has used their debate training to make significant contributions to their profession, to society, or to humanity over the course of their career.

A former University of Iowa debater, Dr. Cherwitz has spent decades advancing scholarship, engaging the public, and creating the Intellectual Entrepreneurship Consortium, shaping thousands of students and strengthening the role of debate in developing future leaders.
