🎥 New Sunday vlog is out today! The beginning of a series called “An Artist in the Garden” ~ about becoming just that.

I hope for it to be a beautiful and natural blend of things I love the most ~ art, gardens, creativity, and life. 😘 x. Jess

Hello there 🌹 I have missed you!

I am finally waking up from a rather long winter ebb, and feeling restored and ready to share some beautiful bits of life again. ✨

I am moving into a chapter of life with the working title “Artist-Gardener” the hyphen seems very important. 👩‍🌾

After seven years of cultivating Coco (my 1/4 acre garden and hobby “farm”) I am finally inspired to sit back, relax, and paint 🎨

This season I’m learning about botanical art starting by watercoloring a Redouté-inspired rose and filming the process. 🎥

And how about you, what is going on in your studios, gardens, and lives?

Storm, oil on canvas, 2022 🤍

Sometimes a painting is like a compass, pointing towards a future horizon that waits to be explored.

And our job is to find the path… and then to walk it, step by step.

Until we wake up one day and realize, we are here.

Currently here. ◻️ This piece, which I believe is called “Ore” has been my main hang for the past few weeks.

It is in the refinement part of the process… which is this constant holding of the question “are you finished?”

In this case, not quite.

▫️▫️▫️ Tiny neutral set pour toi.

I have a vision of filling a wall or perhaps a hallway with oodles of these relaxing neutral washes.

These were meant to be studies using a medium called absorbent ground on canvas to see how close I could get to a watercolor effect.

But sometimes the study is the thing, isn’t it.

Hello beautiful people. This is me. I am an artist.

I am infatuated with modern sculpture and the language of form.

I seem to create mostly bold black and white abstract statement pieces, although I don’t mean to.

My process these days feels closest to an archaeological excavation.

I work with all sorts of surfaces, mediums, tools and gestures to reveal something that existed long before me.
