Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This day honors and celebrates the voice, legacy, and impact of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK).
Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) is one of the most significant figures in American history due to his leadership in the Civil Rights Movement and his commitment to nonviolence. His efforts were pivotal in dismantling systemic racial segregation and discrimination through civil disobedience and peaceful protests, such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the March on Washington.
The Civil Rights Movement was a pivotal struggle during the 1950s and 1960s aimed at achieving social justice and equality for African Americans in the United States. Through nonviolent protests and legal challenges, activists sought to dismantle systemic racial segregation and discrimination, particularly in the Southern states.
His iconic "I Have a Dream" speech remains a powerful call for racial equality and justice. MLK's advocacy helped secure transformative legislation, including the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This landmark legislation legally ended segregation and protected voting rights for all citizens.

Today is National Special Education Day, which ensures that children with special needs have access to free quality education.
Prior to this law, there were schools that were specific to students with special needs, but they were costly and not financially accessible to families that could not afford tuition to those schools.
Efforts that have been made for special education have been made by grassroots individuals and organizations.
Today is a reminder of the power of community, advocacy, and the dream of change for a more equitable future for all.
