👷‍♀️ I’ve worked with so many technically brilliant managers—sharp, dependable, and absolutely essential to their organizations.

But time and again, I’ve seen something else:
They get promoted because they 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘧𝘧, not because they know how to lead people in powerful ways.

And that gap? It shows up in subtle but powerful ways.

Here are 𝟱 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 I’ve seen (again and again) that a technically skilled manager is struggling in a leadership role:

1. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱.
Instructions are vague. Feedback is fuzzy. People are constantly asking, “What do they really mean?”

2. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝘆.
You walk into the room and something’s off—people are guarded, interactions are strained, and no one looks forward to working together.

3. 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁.
Not because the team has nothing to say, but because they don’t feel safe enough to say it.

4. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁 “𝘆𝗲𝘀.”
Team members agree quickly, but it’s just to move on. It’s not buy-in—it’s burnout or avoidance.

5. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗷𝗼𝘆, 𝗻𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸.
Wins go unrecognized. Effort feels invisible. And little by little, people disengage.

These aren’t “personality issues.” They’re signs of a deeper gap:
👉 A gap between 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴 and 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴.

Most of us--including myself-- don't come to this world with flawless people managing skills. And even when we do learn them, different contexts often demand different approaches.

As a result, our teams struggle. People spend their days putting out fires, and real progress becomes hard to measure.

But what can be really frustrating is that this is completely solvable. With support, these managers can become exactly the leaders their teams need.

Let’s stop settling for technical excellence without powerful, motivating engaging human-centered leadership. It can be done.

➡️ Fewer than 2% of all CEOs at Fortune 500 companies are Hispanic - NONE are Latinas.
➡️ Latinas represent less than 1% of senior-level positions

Hello !

Back at work after a COMPLETE holiday break... didn't open the laptop for close to 15 days.

But it was mostly for lack of time. For many personal reasons, the Holidays are always a little bit chaotic. Extended , aging parents, international travel, Covid, etc... BUT I got to visit my beautiful and my 🇲🇽 always feels me with flavor, joy, and life (even with all the craziness).

I am back with a heart full of - sometimes so difficult to grasp - but I am beginning this new year with only for the new that I will be seeing, the new that I will be starting, and the I will be witnessing. And I can't WAIT!!!!

We're always in cycles, in the middle of change in one way or another, life is always a process of becoming -
