Who has their 2025 goals all ready?

People tried to tell me how much I would love being a grandma. But really? I had no idea. I can’t even explain how much I love these two. This little girl has brought so much joy to our whole family. So very grateful she is here, happy and healthy!

I LOVE setting goals. In fact, I totally geek out on setting goals and always have. I always think that if I achieve a big goal, that a huge transformation will have taken place.

It’s taken me a hot minute to understand something though.

Goals are just setting the destination. It’s just plugging in the coordinates. You need to know where you’re going so you can take the right turns and such.

But, just because you set a goal, doesn’t mean you’ll achieve it.

It’s all about the daily habits. The processes. The baby steps in the direction toward your goals.

I’ve been reevaluating today.

What are my daily habits? My routines? My systems? Are they effective for reaching my goals?

I’m realizing that some of them aren’t effective. In fact, some of them are leading me in the exact opposite direction of my goals.

I’m human. I’ll just have some compassion for myself today. Reevaluate and get back on track.

Not a problem at all!

Looking forward to more success in the future:)

What goals have you set for direction and have you planned out your systems or daily habits to get there? I’d love to hear about it!

June 17th, 2022. This is what 50 looks like for me. I took this in the car on the way up to an 80's concert on my 50th birthday.

I don't know what I thought I would feel on the big day. I was worried I'd be sad. But, I wasn't. Sentimental, maybe. Wondering where the time went? Definitely. But not sad. Not one bit.

My life is good. I'm happy.

I'm grateful for the lessons life has taught me so far. Grateful for the struggles, the pain, and the many, many more awesome moments I've been blessed with.

What's even better? I can't believe I have another 40 years + to live! I know I have no idea how much longer I have, but here are my promises to myself for the next 30, 40, 50 years:)

Always keep learning - keep progressing. Personal development is fire for me. I believe that whatever I learn, whatever gifts and talents I strive to develop while here on this earth, will come with me to life after. I want to spend this time being the best Sue I can be. Always comparing my growth to myself...not anyone else.

Honor my spirit - Treat myself with the same amount of compassion I have for others. Develop my spirituality. Strive to develop Christlike characteristics and always improve upon my knowledge and testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Honor my body, treat it well. Treat it like it needs to last for the next 100 years. My physical body is an incredible gift from God. I will continually focus, within my control, upon the things that will keep me healthy, fit and well.

I will cultivate my most valuable relationships. I love my family. So very much. Of course I will be focusing on family, as always, but I find myself at a moment in my life where kids are older and almost all out of the house. I feel the pull to focus on friendships again. Rich, beautiful friendships. I really look forward to that.

I'm sure after I post this, I'll think of more, but there's one more I can think of at the moment.

Enjoy the journey! I've loved ALL of my life - the good, the bad and the ugly. I fully plan on loving the rest of it, too! Here's to a LOT more life to live!

I don’t think Epictetus meant for the emphasis to be added to “YOURSELF”?

But, just think about it for a second.

Parents sacrifice all kinds of time AND money demanding the best for their children.

We get caught up in it. We scrimp, save, overextend, and overcommit to pay for the best teams, coaches, tutors, private lessons, etc.

We give our time. LOTS of time transporting, watching rehearsals, games and performances.

We think all the sacrifice is a good thing. And for the most part, YES! It’s fantastic. Kids learn so much from these activities.

But, what if it’s not the best thing? What if a balance of demanding the best for YOURSELF and your children is the best thing?

What if the best for yourself looks like decreasing activities for a child so that you can have time and money to learn something new? To invest in yourself? To even have time for self-care - mentally and physically? Or even working with other parents to decrease the amount of work for all?

You may be an example. You may be less overwhelmed. You may be more personally fulfilled, more emotionally present, and more mentally stable.

I’m entirely guilty of overcommitting myself and my children at times. I’ve also experienced doing the opposite - finding a balance.

I like balance better.

Remember that you are worthy of demanding the best for YOURSELF.

What is one thing you could do to demand the best for yourself today? Big or small.

Try it. You might love it. Don’t wait any longer!

It might even change your life!

P.S. If you want coaching on how to demand the best for yourself, message me! I’d love to work with you!

Did you know that social media platforms hire sociologists to help them design a product that will promote high engagement among users?

What did they come up with? The “like” button. Their vast, impressive knowledge of the human brain led them to the design of something as simple as the “like” button.

Why is that so effective? Our brains desire acceptance and connection. We want to be part of the tribe. Each time we look at our post and see how many “likes” or comments we’ve gotten, we feel a level of connection and acceptance from other humans, and our brains release a neurotransmitter called dopamine. It’s like a “hit” or a high. It’s addictive. And, we get hooked!

I have a wonderful client who is establishing a morning habit routine. Each time she completes a habit, she draws a heart next to it. It got me thinking…

Every time she “likes” that she kept a commitment to herself, she gets a little dopamine hit. Each time she draws that heart after even a small accomplishment in the day, it’s like a VOTE for the type of person she wants to become.

What if we paid more attention to the “likes” and “votes” we give to ourselves over the “likes” others give to us? Would we spend more time on self-improvement? Would we spend less time on social media? Who could we become?

Who do you want to become?
