Hello all. It has been a while since I have posted due to being super busy with my advocacy work. I did want to post this information about the one time grant for families with a child enrolled in special education in Texas. You can use the money to pay for a variety of things provided by approved vendors. It is first come, first serve so don't wait! You can find more information here: https://tea.texas.gov/academics/special-student-populations/special-education/pdses-parent-portal-faqs

Beautifully Wired | Helping Families Raise Neurodiverse Children 09/19/2023

Just a reminder friends. Since I left teaching, I have been supporting families of children with special needs. Families might be starting out with a new diagnosis, need help with behaviors at home, or need support at school with special education or 504 meetings. I have lived it as a parent and an educator! Please share this post and/or pass on my information. Encourage families you know who are in need of support to reach out via my web site, or send me an email at [email protected]. I will do a free consultation to see if I am a good fit for the family. If not, I will do my best to point them in the right direction!

Beautifully Wired | Helping Families Raise Neurodiverse Children Our children see, hear, and react to the world in different ways. My goal is to help you understand your child’s behavior and create positive changes that will fit for your family.

Masking is a common behavior in the neurodiverse community. Basically a neurodiverse person hides their true self in order to fit in with societal norms. You could say we all mask to some extent. However in the neurodiverse community, masking can be very detrimental and even lead to suicidal tendencies. Do your part to encourage acceptance and discourage masking!

Double Empathy Problem is a theory that states miscommunications between and Autistic person and a neurotypical person due to disconnect in understanding how the other person perceives the world. This disconnect will make it challenging for both people to empathize with each other. What are your thoughts about this idea?

As the mother of an autistic child, I know it is hard to find a summer camp that will understand and accommodate for her. I have done some research and found a list of camps that come highly recommended. Check them out and see if they are a good fit for your child! Please comment below if you know of any other camps to add to the list!
