“I’ve been doing this for 20 years,” they say
Law enforcement, family law attorneys, and judges all sound certain about what the law is… right up until it involves enforcing Interference with Child Custody, a state jail felony.
Suddenly it becomes:
“That’s a civil issue.”
“Go hire a family lawyer and take it back to family court.”
But how does a felony statute get redirected into a civil courtroom?
Since when does enforcing a criminal law require hiring a civil attorney?
So ask Mr. Officer - at what point does a criminal statute stop being “the law” and become “just a family matter”?
