⁣What does it mean to stay present? ⠀
When I find myself teaching children about their bodies & emotions we often find ourselves staying present in what our body is telling us. We talk about it and go through each stage through the process of co-regulation and interoception as we build on ideation and emotional intelligence. The most admirable thing is watching my patients grow and take a leap with certainty by themselves after the process. They humble my heart and remind me of the courage it takes to open our hearts, feel, and humbly take a leap without making the world revolve around us. Such a beautiful experience. 💫 They truly are role models. Living without storylines.
I hope you find some comfort in this simple, yet insightful quote. It’s quite beautiful how one phrase can change your entire day. ⠀
Love always 🤍⠀

When I learned about this it quickly made sense in my head. However, it was very eye opening since I grew up learning that a baby cries when he/she is "hungry." To my understanding when I was growing up, it seemed as if the baby cried to let the parent know he/she was hungry. NOW I understand it was actually a disorganized response to a late feeding cue. When the baby's body reaches a disorganized state it leads to crying. Consequently, this leads to difficulty maintaining a productive feed.

Here are some FEEDING CUES you can observe in a baby that wil let you know if its time for a feed: 🤗 ⠀

✔️Subtle body motions⠀
✔️Rooting reflex
✔️Rapid eye movement (REM): the best time to feed a baby! 😉⠀
✔️Mouthing ⠀
✔️Placing hands around the mouth ⠀

When you stay close to the baby you have better chances of observing these cues. Now, reality is that it is very hard to be watching the baby 24/7...no shame! I would suggest monitoring the baby. Place them to sleep in an area where you have easy acces or can easily see whats happening. Remember that a baby should not go without a feed after 2-3 hours. Practicing baby led feeding is a great way to help the baby regulates his/her own fat intake! 🤍🤍⠀

⁣Did you know?! 🤯⠀⠀
I have to be honest, this stat freaked me out. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
It is interesting, but the emotional reactivity does not mean only negative emotions such as rage or extreme sadness. Walker explains that sleep deprivation leads to “mood swings” and “inappropriate emotional reactions” linked to fight/flight responses. ⠀

This kept me thinking....🤔 how is sleep deprivation affecting both, mental and emotional development in our kiddos? Many suffer from lack of sleep. It is so important to stay mindful of how many quality hours of sleep kids are getting. Also, how is YOUR sleep? Are you sleeping enough hours to maintain your own well-being? YOU MATTER TOO. ⠀

Never hesitate to seek help and refer to other health professionals. ⠀

Sleep is the foundation to optimal development!🧠⠀⠀

⁣Adaptations to help kiddos focus at home and school! ⠀
I tried to get as many things I could find around my home. Swipe to check out some of the ideas!

PURPOSE:⠀
The idea is that your kiddo is able to wiggle a little while maintaining attention to task. It’s really hard for our kids to stay seated for longer than 10 minutes specially if it’s a non-preferred task. In order to help them be successful, we must provide them with ways to help their body stay regulated AND comfortable.⠀
⠀⠀
Don’t forget to provide sensory breaks in between too! It will help balance their arousal level whether they need to heighten it or lower it.⠀
⠀⠀
Equipment:⠀
•Pillows⠀
•Shoebox⠀
•Wobble cushion from .sport⠀
•Storage plastic box or laundry basket⠀
•Theraball from ⠀
•Storage beanbag from ⠀
•Resistance banda from ⠀⠀

What if we work together to help our children build a YES BRAIN? 🧠✨⁣

What if we provide them with the necessary tools to thrive and bloom even in the darkest times. What if we help them become happy and embodied human beings by taking care of ourselves too and teaching them self-love and respect. What if we work together to build a better future for our children and everyone around them?🤍⁣

Resilience is key to survival and happiness. Let’s keep advocating for each other! Let’s be present and show compassion to our kids by listening to them.🤩⁣

HAPPY FRIDAY !!⁣

Milestones 10-12 months and this handsome little guy 😍!!!⁣

There is an EXPLOSION of skills happening here! Little one starts walking!!!!!!!⁣

The ability to walk and move around the environment provides with the opportunity to create more neural connections through exploration and experiences. Some of these experiences can start from playing and trying new foods being introduced to developing spatial awareness & safety awareness as we start understanding where our body is in space and how to be more careful with movements or exploration. ⁣

All sensory systems working here! You might start seeing that the little one may get overwhelmed with some environments or anxious about being around new people. More giggles and silliness observed! Baby starts understanding cause and effect (toys and behaviors) “If I smile, mama smiles” 😀⁣

Have you ever thought about the kind of attachment you share with your infant or a loved one? ⁣

Humans naturally want to form bonds. The attachment that is formed with our parents during infancy has a HUGE impact in the way we relate to others and form shared meaningful bonds that are not self-centered, but genuine. This Sunday take some time to play with your little one and observe all the behaviors he/she present with. Every behavior is a call for attention and attachment (positive & negative). ⁣Stay present, be happy! 🤍

Happy Sunday! ⁣
Stay Shiny! ⁣

Studies suggest that mothers who received skin to skin right after postpartum have an increase in maternal care practices & children have greater development with less indications of difficulties later in life (Ainsworth, 1989). ⁣What do you guys think?!🤔 Attachment is SO REAL.

Milestones 8-9 months and this handsome little guy! 🤍🤍⁣

This stage is FULL of adventures and discoveries! Infant is now more independent with mobility which means she/he is exploring the surrounding and finding the best non-edible objects to place in his/her MOUTH! 🤪⁣

We start seeing some drooling and gestures when infant likes or dislikes something! A lot of exploration with hands letting all that tactile information sink in and making all those neural connections through experiences. Vestibular, visual and proprioceptive input development through reaching and obtaining objects with appropriate direction of movement and accuracy. Infant starts crawling, maintaining quadruped position and moving head around to fixate on desired object or person. ⁣Baby is able to open a book and finds interest in the illustrations! 📖

Eye hand coordination happening here as we start developing pincer grasp to obtain small objects, reaching for objects, and start exploring the use of a small baby spoon. Lots of gustatory and tactile experiences with new food exploration! ⁣Such a great phase with TONS of exploration, but OH MAN!!!!!!!😱😱😱 Mamá CANT leave them unattended for a bit because something unexpected more than likely will be happening! 😆🤪 DO YOU RELATE? 😁😁

WE LOVE THIS CUTIE and his MAMA!!!

Hey there! ⁣It’s been EXTRA busy these last couple of weeks making it hard to be 💯% present! BUT I’ve been learning SO much and I am so excited to share all great info with YOU! I wanted to share a quick nutritional tip for starting solids with baby! 👶

Quick tip... As soon as baby is introduced to solids make sure foods are rich in iron and zinc to meet nutritional needs. Foods are to be modified in texture appropriate to developmental stage to prevent choking and assist with oral motor development. ✨✨⁣ HAPPY SATURDAY ✨✨
