Besides making money, most people come to work to contribute and make a difference.

Yes, to make a difference.

Help your teams know their purpose so that they can make a difference.

Purpose provides the energy to overcome problems so that they can make a difference.

How can you do this?

Leaders, ask your team, "What is our common, compelling purpose as a team?"

Get your team to reflect on their own purpose and share it.

Yes, they need to share it.

Then ask them, "Why do you come to work everyday? What brings the most satisfaction?"

Have them share this out loud.

Then ask,
"What are we here to do together? How would your talent, strengths, and values offer to what we are doing together?"

This conversation brings in trust and safety, belonging, teamwork, team building, motivation, empowerment, and brilliant ideas!

Give it a try at your next team meeting.

How do you show up well in the workplace when your personal life is in chaos?

This is a common conversation with my clients.

Life is always happening, curve balls are thrown, relationships fall apart, health issue spring up, a loved one passes away, etc.

How can you still show up at work, hold space for your team and colleagues, make thoughtful decisions, keep your cool without lashing out, not projecting your issues on others, and support yourself in an optimal way?

You need to know your values: what you stand for, what you won't compromise, what lights you up, what your bigger purpose is in life.

You need to know your strengths: You have to conserve energy when things are in survival mode, so you lean into what comes very natural to you and not spend energy on your weaknesses.

You need a place to be supported: a therapist or a coach or both.

You need tools: tools that calm your nervous system, tools that strengthen your boundaries, tools that help you voice your need for help and support, tools that empower you to be authentic and vulnerable yet holding leadership presence, tools that quickly help you find solutions and answers when everything seems muddled, tools to communicate, tools to cultivate self-compassion.

You also need sleep and nutrition and water.

Leadership coaching isn't just about finding solutions to work problems and having amazing executive presence, but also to guide you to thrive in the middle of real life's curve balls.

Today I’m hosting a workshop for 23 women in the healthcare field about communication styles, women supporting women in the workplace and how to unhook from praise and criticism.

I’m nervous and excited.

This content is what lights me up 💫

However, I’ve never spoken the women supporting women content in a large group setting. This content is always spoken about with my one-on-one female leaders.

❓So what can I do when I am stretching outside my comfort zone, where my inner critic is saying I’m not good enough, prepared enough, smart enough, confident enough….you, know all the stuff we all hear over and over again in our thoughts.

I lovingly reassure my critic that I got this, I’ve prepared for this and she doesn’t have to worry or stress. I imagine hugging her, calming her down, and then tell her to go take a break and have fun.

🔨This is a tool I teach my clients and here I am using it!

It’s a real skill to know how to pause in the middle of chaos, slow down, breathe, let your body settle while calming your nervous system, slowly getting back to your center, allowing yourself to once again anchor to what’s most important to you: your values, and THEN decide your next move or your next thought or your next sentence or your next email, or how you will show up to the next thing.

This is what leads to powerful yet humble and compassionate and servant-led leadership.

When you fell stuck, powerless, and a lack of purpose….

Pull out a piece of paper, a journal, or your Notes app and start jotting down all that you are grateful for in your life.

Let it flow out.

Start with the tiny things and work your way to the BIG things.

You then may feel a shift from rigidity to flow, from tightness to ease, from stuckness to movement, from darkness to light, from coldness to warmth, from fear to confidence.

Explore gratitude today.

What will you find?

You may find a gentle reminder of what’s most important to you. You may find the strength to take a leap. You may find yourself wanting yo connect with someone you are grateful for.

You may find clarity, gratefulness, and peace while sitting right there in your work space.

I went on a women’s leadership retreat in Mendocino, CA. I was not the facilitator but a participant who got to rest, reflect, open, share, support, and re-center on what’s most important to me. There were no leadership tools for better boss lady presence, or how to market your business or organization, or how to give and receive feedback or grow people….but how to take care of yourself, how to make space to lead, finding margin to do all that’s important, tapping into creativity, nature, movement, deep breathing, sisterhood, compassion, being human and real. I was with strangers and by the end, we were women supporting one another with tears, laughs and adventures. It was powerful. First photo is with the 2 amazing coaches/facilitators. I learned a lot from them. We kayaked the Pacific Ocean and navigated sea caves, we hiked while considering our strengths and collecting items from nature that reflected our strengths. Cannot wait to host my own leadership retreat soon enough!
