Clifton CDS Plant Science

Today was a good day for plant science!! The green pathways practicum class attended Generational Dreaming, an event held at the beautiful at & the horticulture science class helped harvest EVERYTHING before the upcoming freeze. Our harvest included: radish, butter crunch lettuce, rainbow chard, curly kale, collard greens, cabbage and broccoli! Last but not least, students and Clifton staff were able to take these veggies home with them!

Everyone enjoy the 3 day weekend, reflect and express gratitude for the work done by MLK and other civil rights activists & please, please stay warm 🥶 🥬

In light of the holiday season, I wanted to take a moment to express how grateful I am for the Clifton Community. We owe the success of our program to people in AISD and the neighborhood that surrounds campus (not just plant science! The hospitality, culinary and career prep programs also benefit immensely from our communities ongoing support).

So, community, I announce to you our Holiday Plant Sale (formerly known as the Poinsettia Sale). This year we are offering a variety of poinsettias and Christmas cactus. Prices are listed in our advertisements… which you will be seeing more of! Our students did a fantastic job showing off the plants.

Today the Green Pathways Practicum students went on a field trip to learn about Arbory, professional tree climbing and job opportunities within the city’s Parks & Rec Forestry department!

We discussed what it takes to work with trees & the environmental and cultural importance of trees in our communities 🌳 🌲 🍃 🐿️

This week in Clifton Plant Science:

•Field trips to Zilker park to learn about green storm water infrastructure ⚙️💧
•Fall Festival celebrations at Clifton with all classes! 🎉 🍂
•Rain Garden design day with the Austin Civilian Conservation Corps 🌧️ 🌸 🍃

All in all I’d say it was a good week!! 😌

This week was so much fun!! We went on field trips, we started our pumpkin painting project, we planted up one of our raised beds with winter veggies & flowers & filled two barrel planters with garlic cloves. Oh and we harvested jalapeños, tomatoes and radish!! 😊🌶️🍅👨🏼‍🌾
