The Essential Plan is Aurora City Schools' proposed facility improvement project, appearing on the November 3, 2026, ballot. Developed over the past two years through community feedback, staff collaboration, and partnership with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission, the plan addresses the district's highest-priority facility needs.

LEIGHTON SCHOOL CLOSED TOMORROW, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2026

Good Evening, Leighton Families.

This is your Superintendent, Dr. Paul Milcetich, with an important message regarding school tomorrow. Due to the failure of the air conditioning system at Leighton Elementary School, Leighton will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, September 2nd. All other Aurora City Schools will remain open on their regular schedules.

Since this afternoon, our district team has worked diligently to secure the necessary parts and complete repairs in an effort to avoid closing school. Unfortunately, compressor issues have prevented us from getting the system fully operational, and the unit will need to be shut down tomorrow to complete the necessary repairs. With the current Heat Advisory and anticipated temperatures, we do not believe we can safely and appropriately operate the building without a functioning cooling system.

We know that closing school creates an inconvenience for our families, and this decision was not made lightly. We also recognize that tomorrow was scheduled to be Picture Day, and we will communicate a new date as soon as it is rescheduled.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as our maintenance team works to get Leighton back up and running as quickly as possible. Thank you for your continued support, and as always, Go Greenmen!

📚 Harmon Media Center Specialist, Mary L. Beckstrom, used her ASF Grant to bring the Language Arts Festival to Harmon Middle School!

The festival featured Julie Ditchburn Patton, author of Bigfoot is a Jerk and publisher of Bizzare Books.

HARMON SCHOOL FALL FUNDRAISER 2026

The Harmon School Fall Fundraiser begins on August 25th and will run through September 8, 2026. This year the Funderworks Fundraiser will consist of purchasing magazine subscriptions, gift items, Tervis tumblers, candles and over 1,000 additional items. We ask for your help promoting this fundraiser as money raised will offset the costs of 6th Grade Camp and the 7th & 8th grade Washington, D.C. trip.

HARMON SCHOOL 6th, 7th and 8th GRADE OPEN HOUSES FOR 2026-27 SCHOOL YEAR

Harmon Middle School will be holding an evening Open House at Harmon School for parents of students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The date/times are listed below:

6th Grade: August 25, 2026 ~ 7:00 p.m.

7th & 8th Grade: August 26, 2026 ~ 7:00 p.m.

This gives parents the opportunity to tour the school, follow their student’s class schedule, meet the teachers and gain valuable information for the coming school year.

AURORA HIGH SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE ~ August 27, 2026

The Aurora High School Open House will take place on Thursday, August 27, 2026. It will begin at 7:00 p.m. – 8:45 p.m. at AHS. This open house gives parents/guardians of high school students the opportunity to tour the school, follow their student’s class schedule, meet the teachers who will give an overview of their respective courses and gain valuable information for the coming school year.
