Stay safe out there. Make sure the kids are watching out for cars as we know they will not always look out for pedestrians. Also having something on that is glowing during the evening hours will add visibility. Happy Halloween.🎃

Be safe and be seen this Halloween! In just a few days, many kids will take to the streets to trick-or-treat! We have tips to help parents and caregivers prepare for a safe and sweet night. Check out our Halloween safety tips: https://www.safekids.org/halloween

Speed Awareness Day! Let's make a commitment every day to watch our speed, be aware of the pedestrians and bicyclists. Stay cool out there!

🚨 Speeding Catches Up with You 🚨

Speeding isn’t just about breaking the law — it’s about risking lives. Every mile over the limit increases your chances of a crash… and the severity of what happens next.

💥 In 2023, more than one person died every day in a speed-related crash in Illinois.
💔 Nearly half of those crashes happened during the summer months.
🛑 And in construction zones? Speed was a factor in 45% of fatal crashes.

This Speed Awareness Day, we're joining agencies across Illinois to remind drivers that speed limits save lives. Whether you’re in a neighborhood, school zone, or highway — slow down. Someone’s life depends on it.

You're Not Lonely, You're Just Isolated 12/21/2024

It's a little bit longer of a video, but it's a great topic. Many of us adults may remember in our communities having a third place where we could socialize as children and teens. Aurora, do you feel like there are third places in your community within walking distance?

You're Not Lonely, You're Just Isolated People are lonely. Is it because we are addicted to our phones, or is that a symptom of larger design choices we made when building our places? We cover some...

Aurora, what are your thoughts on this article?

Free and abundant parking has been woven into the fabric of our cities and towns for so long that many people struggle to imagine familiar places with less of it. Or they worry about the consequences: Can we really afford to do away with our parking mandates? Or will reducing parking drive shoppers away?

However, several studies (which you can access through the article linked below) show that making areas more friendly to walkers and bikers is more beneficial than prioritizing drivers. Walkers and bikers spend more, are more likely to be loyal customers, are more likely to return to the business frequently, and make up way more of small businesses’ customer base than owners may think.

Plus, prioritizing walkers and bikers lets business owners use their land more productively: A parking space converted into a bike corral will go from providing parking for one customer to up to twelve at one time.

Aurora let's remember to slow down for our Trick-or-Treaters. Parents, it's always a good rule of thumb to give your kiddo something glowing or flashing so drivers will be able to see them.

Have yourself a gourd time this Halloween, and remember, if you’re out driving on Halloween night, stop for trick-or-treaters and other pedestrians. Let’s work together to make it a safe and spooky night for everyone!
