During the latter half of 2024, the leadership team convened multiple times to prepare for a significant merger encompassing Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. This merger, which officially took effect on January 1, 2025, consolidated four training trust funds within the Southern District into a single entity, now comprising 28 training centers.
The primary objectives of this merger were to pool resources, strengthen relationships with contractors, and standardize training across the district to develop well-rounded carpenters, millwrights, and piledrivers. The newly formed Southern District Training Trust Fund (SDTTF) is led by Executive Director Jimmie Jordan, based in Florida. The SDTTF is divided into two regions: the West, overseen by Director Eric Kastner, based in Texas, and the East, led by Director Rickey Moore, based in Tennessee.
During the merger planning process, the need to enhance contractor relationships became evident, leading to the creation of a new Department of Outreach and Marketing. This department, headed by Director Mark Brown, is responsible for staff training and development, building contractor rapport, managing social media, developing journeyman upgrade programs, and formalizing processes such as apprentice intake, foreman training, recruiting, and mentoring programs within the apprenticeship.

Happy Labor Day!
Here's a Labor Day message from SECRC Executive Secretary-Treasurer Tom Jenkins...
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I am honored to wish every brother and sister of the Southeastern Carpenters Regional Council a happy, healthy, safe, and restful Labor Day weekend!
This is a memorable holiday for the UBC because our Union’s founder, Peter J. McGuire, also founded Labor Day 142 years ago. McGuire created Labor Day to call attention to the critical role American workers play in creating and sustaining the United States' wealth and prosperity.
This is an exceptional time in our nation’s history because of the incredible work and economy-building opportunities surfacing in the Southeast. Our region is a hotspot for new manufacturing factories, hi-tech plants, infrastructure projects, and more.
We are successfully tackling this unprecedented amount of work, and I see the tenacity of our SECRC members every day. From Council staff and training instructors to apprentice and journeymen millwrights, carpenters, and pile drivers, your efforts keep our country’s Southern states operating. You’ve shown a grit that is recognized and appreciated.
It’s not just a UBC slogan: We ARE building strong this Labor Day and every Labor Day. Our strength on the job site, in the Union Hall, and in the community is our legacy, and our climbing work hours and increase in membership prove that we are stronger than ever.
Finally, I wanted to share a digital advertisement from the UBC regarding Labor Day: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IVkuOjyldk/.
Once again, thank you. Your hard work and dedication are the driving force behind our success. Enjoy a well-deserved holiday!
