This morning, we held our inaugural summer workshop for the Auburn Student-Athlete Leadership Program (ASALP). Representatives from many of our programs attended this morning’s session, where we got to hear from Auburn YMCA-WEIU CEO Scott Sincerbeaux, who shared some excellent insight about leadership. The students also participated in breakout discussions in smaller groups, and finished the day with some fun team-building exercises in the SAC at the end. We’d also like to thank our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Misty Slavic, for stopping in to share some words of wisdom as well!

From the beginning of the workshop until the end, all of the student-athletes made tremendous strides in finding their voice, confidence, and learning what it means to lead. We are excited to officially begin this program! Thank you to Shelly Connors and co-founders Alexa Durant and Ethan Jensen for all of your hard work in making this happen!

Good Morning Maroons! A couple of reminders from the athletic department this week:

Today is the last day for JV & V football registration. Please call the office if you have any questions.

Sports physicals are taking place from 9-noon at AHS this Friday, 8/14. Please contact the nurses office if you have any questions regarding physicals.

Lastly, the turf at Holland Stadium will be closed from 11-9:30 pm Monday-Friday this week, as it is being used for the annual marching band camp. Athletes, if you’d like to use the turf during the week, please go in the morning and clear the turf before 11 am. Thank you for your cooperation.

Introducing a new segment in Auburn Athletics - “Maroons Making A Difference”

Our first spotlight goes to Junior Taj Tillman, a member of the varsity basketball team. Taj just hosted his 3rd annual youth basketball camp for the youth in Auburn and surrounding communities. Taj created this camp when he was just 13 years old and has opened it to any kid in the area that wants to participate. This camp is made possible by sponsors, teammates, and volunteers.

Auburn athletics is more than just the playing field or the court. It is about building community, and Taj exemplifies what it means to contribute to his hometown!
