Do you ever WANT to make art…but you just really don’t feel like actually making art? 😅

I think we tend to assume we need to feel motivated before we sit down to paint or draw, when a lot of the time the motivation comes AFTER we start.

In this video, I’m sharing a few of the little tricks I use to get myself into the studio when I’m just not feeling it, from resetting my workspace, to giving myself an easy starting point, to my very important fancy beverage ritual. 😂

Apparently adding an orange slice to your tea makes it a special occasion. I don’t make the rules. 🍊

If you’ve been struggling to get yourself back to the easel or drawing table lately, this one is for you!

🎨 What’s something that helps YOU get into the mood to make art?

I tried a new sanded paper this weekend! HOLY WOW this is amazing. This is Lux Archival 600 grit from BrushAndPencil.com

I've used 400 but this just takes it to another level. I was able to use water to blend base layers of my wax and oil based pencils like a watercolor underpainting, then I went over it all with the pencils and blending with OMS. I will have a full video on this process this week!
OH! And the crazy part is how fast you can work on it! I just started this last night! I had it done in one day! That's crazy for colored pencil!

🔥 I wasn't planning on sharing another Studio Find this soon, BUT THIS ONE IS ON SALE!

If you like drawing or painting outside but mosquitoes think you're an all-you-can-eat buffet, this is one of my absolute favorite finds.

I use my Thermacell Patio Shield Mosquito Repeller EVERY DAY when I sit outside to draw. I just set it near where I'm working, turn it on, and I almost never get bitten.

No greasy lotions. No nasty mosquito spray on my hands that I'm then transferring to my artwork. I can just sit outside with my pencils and draw in peace!

And right now I found a REALLY good deal:

🔥 Thermacell Patio Shield — 40% OFF
🔥 96-hour refill pack — 57% OFF

I put the links, photos, and more about why I love it on the blog:

Tired of grainy, messy colored pencil art? The key isn't always a light hand. Learn why applying just enough pressure can prevent fuzziness and help you achieve smoother, richer layers without damaging your paper.

🎨 Lachri's Studio Finds: 3 simple things I use ALL the time

Some of my favorite studio supplies aren't fancy or expensive!

This week I'm sharing three simple things that have made working with colored pencils so much easier: the wooden storage boxes I use for my pencil collection, mason jars for keeping the colors I'm currently using within reach, and the ridiculously inexpensive little sharpeners I've used for years.

I've put all three together, along with photos and why I like each one, here:

Which one do you use in your studio? And what should I hunt down for next week's Studio Finds?

Why does it feel like you're getting worse at art?

08/14/2026

What if the reason you think you're bad at art is actually because you're getting BETTER?

Look at these amazing paintings! This was such a fun lesson!! You can still follow this acrylic painting lesson if you want to create your own tiger masterpiece!

Tired of fuzzy edges in your drawings? The secret is pushing harder with your pencil, especially on final layers. Sharpen your pencil for crisp lines and burnish to get that smooth, clean look. Don't be afraid to add pressure for professional results.

Stop being afraid to push harder when you need clean lines. Use lighter pressure for early layers, but sharpen your pencil and apply more pressure for those crisp, defined edges on flowers, feathers, or crowns. It makes your work look so much cleaner.
