Lapeer County Student Receives Statewide Recognition at MOSPA Conference

Taylor, MI — May 2026 — The Michigan Occupational Special Populations Association (MOSPA) held its annual State Conference April 30 – May 1, 2026, at Wayne County Community College District - Downriver Campus in Taylor, Michigan. Established in 1975, MOSPA is dedicated to improving opportunities and providing support for career and technical education students with special needs across the state.

The Lapeer County Education and Technology Center is proud to announce that Jeremiah Queen, a senior from Lapeer High School enrolled in the Careers in Architecture and Engineering program, has been awarded the 2026 MOSPA Secondary Education Student Award. Jeremiah was nominated by his instructor, Becki Bushong-Weller.

Jeremiah has focused his studies on Architecture and Interior Design, demonstrating both technical skill and creative vision. During the school year, he collaborated with the Construction Trades program to complete blueprints for a student-built home, while also assisting front office and IT staff with layout designs for an upcoming remodel.

A foster youth who has faced significant challenges, Jeremiah continues to persevere with determination and resilience. Despite a hearing impairment and a naturally reserved demeanor, he is deeply thoughtful and engaged. Throughout the year, he has asked insightful questions that reflect both his growth and dedication to his field. He works exceptionally well with peers, consistently strives to expand his abilities, and takes pride in producing high-quality work. Over time, he has grown more confident in sharing ideas and contributing to collaborative discussions.

Jeremiah plans to attend community college before transferring to Lawrence Technological University, where he intends to pursue a Master’s degree in Architecture. His track record of perseverance suggests he is well-prepared to overcome future challenges and succeed in his educational and professional journey.

Known for his strong design capabilities, Jeremiah excels at transforming layouts and 3D models into polished drawing sheets using Autodesk Revit. He thoughtfully incorporates elements such as landscape and natural lighting to enhance visual appeal. With a keen eye for detail and a unique perspective, he approaches each project with creativity and a deep appreciation for the artistry of design.
