WHAT IS FOOD SOVEREIGNTY? Food sovereignty, a pillar of environmental justice, is the right of peoples to healthy and culturally appropriate food produced through ecologically sound and sustain- able methods, and their right to define their own food and agriculture systems. Food sovereignty is key to ending hunger, food insecurity, poverty, and environmental harms
perpetuated by colonialism and industrialized agriculture. Graphic and text credit goes to https://www.visualizingpalestine.org -Link is in the comments below.

December 2023 has been a busy month for me! I had the pleasure of being on the podcast earlier this month where we discussed weight inclusive care through a nutrition and health equity lens. Link in the comments. Thank you for the support!

It has been a wonderfully challenging year and a half in my new role as an Assistant Professor at I couldn’t have done it without the support of my colleagues and the nutrition students I work with. This piece was the first I have written like this. It made me vulnerable and was challenging for a number of reasons and I’m so glad I did it. Thank you to the The Conversation US for the experience.

Juneteenth is a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the US.
If you are not a member of the African American community, here are some important things you can do to honor Juneteenth (and all year round):
-Buy Black. Large companies have a history of oppressing small and black owned businesses and putting a heavy burden on marginalized communities. By buying black, you are assisting in closing the racial wealth gap which in turn strengthens local economies and has a positive domino effect like the creation of more jobs.
-Have Inter-generational conversations. If you are not a member of the African American community educate yourself about systemic racism and how it impacts African Americans today! Talk with your children and young ones about the history of slavery and injustices that have been experienced by African Americans in the US. Teach about systemic racism and participate in anti-racism protests and movements.
