I'm excited to share that I'll be presenting at the 2026 NCTM Annual Meeting & Expo this October in Denver!

NCTM has long been a place where mathematics educators come together to learn, collaborate, and reimagine what's possible for students. It's an honor to be part of this year's conference, and I'm looking forward to connecting with educators who are passionate about helping every student succeed in mathematics.

I would love for you to join me for a FREE virtual screening of the documentary Counted Out on Saturday, August 8, at 4:00 p.m. Eastern.

The film raises an important question: What happens when millions of people grow up believing they are “not math people,” even as numbers, data, algorithms, and artificial intelligence increasingly shape their choices and opportunities?

This question connects deeply to my work.

The way schools define mathematical success matters. When we reward only speed, memorization, and correct answers, too many students leave school believing that mathematics—and the authority that comes with understanding it—belongs to someone else.

But mathematics can also help people question information, recognize patterns, evaluate claims, make informed decisions, and participate more fully in their communities.

That is the kind of mathematical confidence and agency every student deserves.

The free screening will be followed by a live conversation with the film’s director, Vicki Abeles, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Julia Angwin, and mathematician and professor Talithia Williams.
