Divvy is a social network for students by students.

Students can connect with who they want, create content, and share knowledge with peers, student allies, and professors.

Can anyone tell me what divvy means? And specifically what it means for a university or college education?🧐

Divvy student discussion: see what for and by students means in practice: "Dr. King accomplished so much in his lifetime it's hard to really nail down what his greatest contributions were.

Many are familiar with some of his more prominent works, like "I Have a Dream" speech or "Letter from a Birmingham Jail", but I want to talk about an article he wrote in Morehouse College's campus newspaper in 1947, before he achieved national recognition. The article spoke about Dr. King's perception of the purpose of education. He wrote "The function of education, therefore, is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. But education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society... We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education." I think this was very insightful, and the older I get the more I see what he meant by that".

Did you know about this article--I didn't but now I do

Discover how Deep Learning and Connected Intelligence can empower you with valuable experiences throughout your educational journey.

Connected Intelligence encourages students to co-create or at least add to the knowledge covered in the university classroom. Not only by suggesting additional readings but also raising questions not just answering them. By doing so engagement is dramatically increased. Additionally, if students play some role in the construction of their learning when the class ends they can continue to form groups that extend their learning. In this way students are learning from the differing perspectives of other students and developing an activist approach to learning that is so needed if our democracies are to be a true representative of the people.
Divvy is an on-line platform that is wired to give students opportunities to develop Connected Intelligence.

A recent testimonial from a divvy.live member: I am likewise interested in sustainable networks and partnerships in education. The development of learning communities (like institutions and and platforms such as divvy) allow for the transmission of learning past one's lifetime (potentially). One of the pet peeves I have with US university education is the cutting off of access to university resources for alumni, such as libraries and electronic resources, after graduation. One of the things I've been most appreciative of since taking EDUC 8111E is the permanent access to divvy that has allowed me to continue to use the platform for learning.

Great tips for U-Students!

• Embrace student peer connections. Unlike high school, you are fully responsible for your own learning. Make connections with classmates, form a Learning Pod (LP), or search for an LP that can help you understand the unwritten rules of the class.

• The best academic resource is other students! Within your connections and learning pods, have discussions where you ask questions and get answers from your peers.

• Engage with professors. Introduce yourself to your instructors and form a professor/student LP. Learn from all your professors in one place and collaborate with other students. You can create discussions, not just answer other members’ questions.

• Hone your critical thinking. University is a place of inquiry where you are expected to question, challenge, and debate points of view, supporting your claims with credible evidence. Accepting invites to connections or LPs lets you connect across differences and see beyond your own horizons. Start your own feedback LP to get feedback on your papers and learn from reviewing other students’ work.

• Get involved. Join clubs, organizations, or sports teams, or create your own that match your interests.

• Take time for yourself. Amidst your busy schedule, loneliness can be a challenge because you may not have time to make connections. Connections can be easy when you are on the right site.

• Know where to get help. If you feel overwhelmed, remember that your university has people dedicated to helping students succeed. Don’t be afraid to reach out to professors, academic advisors, or mental health counselors, or form a mentoring LP.
