Want to destress before finals + learn how to recycle old canvases and prepare any surface for painting? Drop in ArtsLab any time between 1:00-3:30 pm this coming Monday, April 28, to learn how to use acrylic gesso!
Gesso is an absorbent paint mixture used as a base for painting on canvas, wood, acrylic, etc., which prevents the paint from seeping through the material and ensures a smooth painting experience. It can be used on most rigid surfaces, allowing you to paint on them.

As we continue to commemorate the life of President Carter and his legacy, we reflect on the former president’s commitment to the Emory community, including the arts on campus. On October 11, 2017, a group of Emory Film and Media students were invited to interview President Carter, pictured above. Students asked him questions regarding social media, the news, and their impacts on the political climate of the time.
Additionally, on November 10, 2009, President Carter was a featured guest on the Creativity Conversations series, where he discussed his creative output over the years, including writing fiction and poetry, woodworking, and learning to paint.
Throughout these moments, President Carter shared advice with students, highlighting the the impact of art and writing on his life, and asserting the need to tell the truth.
