Georgia Tech's OMS Cybersecurity: 100% online, flexible curriculum tracks, tuition under $12K

When patient care is the top priority, hospital systems must remain continuously operational, and many hospitals rely on legacy devices; vulnerability remediation becomes difficult to keep up with, leaving systems exposed to cyberattacks.

Georgia Tech expert Brendan Saltaformaggio and his team of researchers have partnered with three Georgia hospitals to better understand healthcare cybersecurity gaps and develop tools to quickly identify and remediate system vulnerabilities.

However, testing directly on live hospital networks could put critical systems — and patient care — at risk. To address this challenge, Saltaformaggio, an associate professor in the OMS Cybersecurity program, and the Hospital-Integrated Vulnerability Identification and Proactive Remediation (H‑VIPER) team have dedicated the first phase of this estimated three-year project to building a “sandbox" or full hospital network simulation. This environment allows researchers to explore vulnerabilities and test solutions without disrupting clinical operations.

This federally funded project aims to uncover new approaches to vulnerability management that can ultimately be deployed in real hospital networks — without interfering with patient care.

The OMS Cybersecurity program marked a turning point in Prasad’s career. After waiting for his daughters to graduate and head off to college, he jumped into the program, eager to advance both academically and professionally. The OMS Cybersecurity program transformed his industrial laundry background into a specialized cybersecurity skill set that now supports complex, high-impact security initiatives.

He calls this journey “one of the most meaningful highlights of his career, not just because of the degree I pursued, but because it demonstrated resilience, time management, and the ability to succeed while prioritizing my career.” Way to go, Prasad! 🎓🐝

Cybersecurity software bans caused by geopolitical tensions decrease global awareness of malicious activity, which ultimately delays response times.

In a recent study, Georgia Tech researchers uncovered major gaps in today’s threat intelligence pipeline, including limited data sharing and widespread sandbox evasion. Brenden Kuerbis, executive director of the Online Master of Science in Cybersecurity, explores how threat intelligence provenance can help preserve global collaboration even as political pressures push systems toward fragmentation.
