Born in Atlanta on February 4th, 1947, George R. Doughtie, Jr. of Gainesville passed away on January 1st, 2018 after an extended illness. A lifelong mechanic and BMW-certified technician, George retired from his independent shop in early 2017. He rebuilt his first engine at age 14, raced in vintage leagues, instructed at high-performance driving schools, and had many of his cars featured in national events and magazines. George was a fervent fan of American Motors, smooth jazz, and Waffle House.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Libby” Doughtie (nee Hicks), children Shawn, Scott, Brian, and Amy, grandchildren Johnathan, Piper, Harley, Tyler, Gabriella, and AJ and his brothers Chris (Frankie) Doughtie and Sim (Tricia) Doughtie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Suzanne Doughtie.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you contribute to your favorite charity.

A remembrance will be held on Sunday, January 7th, 2018 at McDonald & Son Funeral Home in Cu***ng, GA from 2-4 p.m.
