Loyola Rome Center Class of 72-73

Lives forever changed and marked by experiencing the world together. It’s been almost 45 years since we walked the streets of Rome for the first time.

Yet neither time nor distance has lessened the life changing experiences we had or the very special bonds we formed at the Rome Center, many of which have been relived and renewed since our last reunion. This is a true testament to the significant impact our time at the Rome Center had on us.

We need your help as we finalize plans for this years 45th reunion. Next week we may have to renegotiate our guarantees with our venues based upon our current list of those of you who have RSVP'd. You can RSVP on our class site at JFRC72-73.com. You won't have to pay when you RSVP so please let us know if you plan on attending so we can plan accordingly. Thanks!

I want to throw out a challenge to our class. In less than 9 months our Rome center family is having a reunion. As many of you know discussing politics & religion at a family get together can cause all kinds of ill will. So I am suggesting that for the next nine months we all agree to end political & religious post and discussions on Facebook. At our age 9 months from now we will have forgotten any posts that old. Agreed?

Regretfully we have lost another family member from our class a few
years ago.

Mimi Francis (Bullard) Rudy, age 62, of Winnabow, N.C., died Monday, April 14, 2014 at Duke Regional Medical Center in Raleigh, N.C. of heart complications. Mimi was a longtime resident of Syracuse, N.Y., moving to Courtland, Va. in 2006 and retiring to North Carolina in 2012.

Mimi Rudy was born in Syracuse, N.Y. on Jan. 1, 1952, the daughter of the late Robert L. Bullard and Mary (Francis) Bullard. Mimi attended Lyncourt Junior High School and Solvay High School in Syracuse, N.Y. She received her BA in Theology from Rosary Hill College in Buffalo, N.Y. She received her MA in Elementary Education from SUNY Oswego.

Mimi was an avid lover of music. When young, she danced ballet and later taught dance in Lyncourt, N.Y. She also appreciated the music of orchestras and bands, seeking out open air concerts every summer wherever she was. She expressed her creativity later in life through a newfound love for quilting, crafting intricate art in fabric alongside close friends.

Mimi taught for many years in both public and parochial schools. She taught at Assumption School and Cathedral School in Syracuse, and served as a beloved and sought-after substitute teacher in the Fabius-Pompey School District in Fabius, N.Y. After moving to Courtland, Va., Mimi taught science at Southampton Middle School

She married her husband, John George Rudy, in 1980. Together, the two forged a strong and loving household. Mimi and John adventured across the country together, loved each other deeply and cherished every moment they spent with each other. Their hearts truly beat as one. Each supported the other through good times and bad. Their abiding love was an example to all, thanks in part to their service as active members and weekend presenters in the Worldwide Marriage Encounter community. The two retired to their dream home in Wilmington, N.C. in 2012, close to the beach and away from harsh winters. They planned to have many more adventures together.

Mimi instilled her love of history in her only son, John Matthew Rudy. She had a deep love of Abraham Lincoln and the American Civil War. She and her son were active and engaged members of the Onondaga County Civil War Roundtable. Although distance separated her from the roundtable when she retired, it did not stop her inquisitive mind, her strong sense of curiosity or her neverending willingness to stop at any historical site along the road.

Mimi will be remembered as a woman who forged deep and abiding friendships wherever she went. Everyone she touched smiled. She is survived by her husband John; her son, John and his soon-to-be wife, Jessica Haines, both of Gettysburg, Pa.; and her brother, Robert L. Bullard Jr. and his wife Barbara, of Lyman, S.C. and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind countless friends in Syracuse, Courtland, Va. and Wilmington, N.C.
