The Five Finger Paragraph

The Five Finger Paragraph

Share

The Five Finger Paragraph is a VERY kinesthetic way of teaching students to write paragraphs and essays WITHOUT THE STRESS or battles!

The SAT exam requires a five paragraph essay DURING THE TEST, in only 25 minutes. Can your teenager write one? Check out ALL of my books at http://www.amazon.com/Johnnie-W.-Lewis/e/B007B16EXI/ref=sr_tc_2_0?qid=1448730951&sr=1-2-en

Unaware 0-2
Unknowing 3-8
Unconcerned 9-16
Assimulating 17-25
In charge 26-40
Coping/tolerating 41-60
Reflecting 61-70
Irrelevant 71+

This is my explanation of the ages of human beings. I realize that some of us don't fall into given age levels or categories, but we're just the exceptions to the "rules."

From birth to about age 2, a child is unaware of anybody or anything else in the world of more importance than him/herself.

From age 3 to age 8, he/she is unknowing of anything outside of his/her own circle of life.

Age 9 to about age 16, we are aware of but are unconcerned about others outside of our own lives.

Age 17 to age 25, we start assimilating others into our own realms.

Age 26 to age 40, we find ourselves "in charge" of whatever is within or touching our realm. Whether we want to be in charge or not.

From 41 to age 60, we're simply learning to cope with and tolerate everything else around us. Kind of like a duck swimming. Totally peaceful looking above water, but thrashing around madly below the surface.

From age 61 to 70, we're finally at the age that we can be reflecting a good portion of the time on all that has happened in our lives.

But after 71 years of age, we are, to the rest of humanity, irrelevant. The rest don't care about our opinions, our contributions, our goals, our desires in life, because why? The people in the rest of the world are still in one of the lower age ranges and they're too busy with their own lives to give a rip about the older people who BUILT their world!

Welcome to the world of reality, Folks!

All three formats/versions of "Courting Georgia" are now LIVE on Amazon.com!!!! Ebooks (for Kindle, iPad, Tablet, or computer) is $9.95. Paperbacks are $61.00, Hardbacks are $69.95, although as an introductory item, Amazon has the latter two on sale for 39% off!

I'm sorry the prices seem so high, but this book is 368 long, with 717 photographs, so Amazon is charging a bunch for printing this little puppy.

Please tell ALL teachers, Principals, and state government employees about the book. I've been told by several people who have seen the proof copy that every SCHOOL in the STATE should have at least one copy in their libraries!! I can only wish it were so!

If you have a group that wants to purchase many copies, I can get them for you as "author copies," which will be cheaper for you and the group. Just let me know how many, I'll order them, and you can pay me back via check or PayPal.

To place your order, go to Amazon.com, enter the name of the book (Courting Georgia) into the search line, and it will bring up the book.

Time to get excited about newest book about our lovely state of Georgia!!

As we celebrate this joyous season, Jimmy and I remember the blessings we’ve received this year, as the Lord kept us safe during our travels.

Please join us in offering a prayer for those brave men and women who are unable to spend the holidays with their families and loved ones, because they’re defending our freedom and protecting our lives.

May you and yours have a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. And to our Jewish friends, Happy Hanukkah!!

To help all those parents (and grandparents!) who now have the new occupation of “homeschool teacher,” I’d like to offer you a “hand,” if you will.

I’ve put all of my educational books on a reduced price. And if you buy them in ebook version, they’re even cheaper!

There’s a whole series of books that helps you teach (or for kids to learn by themselves) how to write paragraphs and essays: “The Five Finger Paragraph” books. And a series on the life cycle of Monarch butterflies: “Flutterbye, the Butterfly.” And the “Babs Books” series is a “chapter books” series about a pre-teen girl who solves mysteries in her tiny town with her pet — a KING SNAKE, named Rosie!

Check them out. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!

Happy COVID-19 Hiding!

Yes, it's been a while since I have had anything to say on here. But it's not because of lack of interest. It's because of lack of time!

My Better Half and I have made a monumental decision. We are selling our house and everything that's in it, buying an RV, and hitting the road FULL TIME! We are going to be VAGABONDS! In England, they're called "Travelers" and elsewhere in Europe, they're called "Gypsies," whether they have Gypsy heritage or not. They just TRAVEL around, making their living and living life on the march.

We've seen some of Europe and the Caribbean and are ready to see the REST of the USA!! SO. We've had our first garage sale. Even though it was successful (sold a lot, but not all of it), I don't think I EVER want to do that again! Besides being stressful, I have had enough of the RUDE people. They completely overshadowed the NICE people, almost 4-1. The rest of the furniture will either go WITH the house when it sells or be donated somewhere. Tried to let our children have their pick of things, but they aren't interested in Mom's and Dad's belongings.

For those of you who haven't followed us for very long, we lost almost everything we had 10.5 years ago when our house was struck by lightning, blew up, and burned down. Any and all antiques and "family" possessions that the kids might have wanted (except a few film negatives), was gone. So, everything that we own is either less than 10 years old or early Thrift Shop purchases. And who wants someone else's 10-year-old junk, unless it can be had for a song? Few people.
ANYWAY, as soon as the house is restored to "curb appeal" shape, we're putting it on the market. And will buy our selected RV. And pick which direction we'll head to first. The "Odyssey" will last either 5 years or 5 minutes -- depending on whether or not Jimmy can stand me in an enclosed space for that long!

The game plan goes something like this. We want to, during that 5 years, see/do/participate in:

* visit all the lighthouses on the Eastern Seaboard, from Bar Harbor, Maine all the way around to Corpus Christi, Texas. Soon have been sold, some discontinued, some torn down, but they were all in commission at some point, lighting the way for ships to come to our shores.
* visit all the "old" baseball parks. Actually, only Fenway Park (Boston), Wrigley Field (Chicago), and Dodger Stadium (Los Angeles) are left, but we want to see all of the places where old baseball was played, where people fought to get into the games because baseball was LIFE to those people. Back before professional football players knelt to become a disgrace to America, back before soccer invaded America, back before...
* see all of the (baseball) Spring Training games at least once for each team.
* see all of the National Parks and most of the State Parks. Or at least we'll try. Once you've seen Yellowstone (we did that in 2015), the rest of the parks will be all downhill!
* hometowns of great Americans.
* filming locations of great events (The "Field" of Dreams, bank robberies, Arizona Memorial (Hawaii), etc.).
* homes and hometowns and industries and inspirations of ordinary Americans. Just so we can say that we've SEEN America!

During this Odyssey, we will have, on the side of our motorhome, a sign that says "Chasing 75..., degrees!" That means Florida (or southern Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, or California) during the winters or points NORTH during the summers.

So, if you see us traveling down the road, give us a honk! The Two Old Farts Traveling (and the accompanying Five Finger Paragraph!) will be coming to a town near you!
