When a surgeon performs a procedure, the CPT code may cover more than the surgery itself. Depending on the procedure, the *Global Surgery Package* can include pre-operative care, the surgery, and routine post-operative care during a **0-, 10-, or 90-day global period**.

But not every service during that period is automatically included. Care for unrelated conditions, certain complications, or separately reportable services may require modifiers such as **-24, -25, or -79**, when appropriate.

📍 PLACE OF SERVICE (POS) CODES: WHY LOCATION MATTERS IN MEDICAL BILLING
Every insurance claim includes a 2-digit POS code that tells the payer where the healthcare service was provided. Common examples include:
🏥 POS 11: Office
🛏️ POS 21: Inpatient Hospital
🏢 POS 22: Outpatient Hospital
🚑 POS 23: Emergency Room
💻 POS 02: Telehealth
🏠 POS 10: Telehealth provided in the patient’s home

Why does it matter? The same service can be reimbursed differently depending on the POS code. Using an incorrect POS, such as billing an outpatient service as inpatient, can result in incorrect reimbursement, claim delays, or denials.

After a patient visit, the provider’s office creates a Superbill containing the information a Medical Biller needs to prepare an insurance claim.
